StatosDadRI Posted January 4, 2008 Author Posted January 4, 2008 Amen on Brent and ***. This is just a hobby for fun and would never consider it profitable at this level. How many times can we get out tackle ready for spring this winter. Thermometer is on ZERO UGGGGGGGGGGGGGG Quote
otto Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Any body have any good color selections for pouring senkos. Is it hard to pour plastics What are good websites to buy colors from and materials. Any Suggestions? Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 delmart and lurecraft. Best 2 out there. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 4, 2008 Super User Posted January 4, 2008 Well, read the post above yours and spend A LOT of time researching the project. Making your own stuff might be lots of fun, but it will involve some investment in both time and money. If you just want to do it for "fun" that's great, but you won't save any money! Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Yeah you will RW. ;D ;D I just spent 112 bucks on 2 molds. a fluke and a robo look alike. Figure up how many bags I can buy with 112 bucks. The reward is making it yourself and catching fish off it or the customization aspect. Take a senko style bait for example. A pourer can make a senko 1k different ways and 1k's colors. And for the person that thinks they will sell a billion of them an make all this money. Good luck with that. ;D Quote
otto Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Thanks lurecraft is where I plan on buying the senko molds and plastic, hardener and softner 2 colors and glitter for around $50. I thiought it would pay for itself with how expensive semkos are. Quote
Jay_G Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 You are exactly right about the reason we pour. I actually just wanted to make baits for myself, but people saw what I was doing......now a website and google ads, etc. I am pouring about 2 hours in the evenings and about 6 hours on the weekend (5 GALLONS a week). For those wanting to get into it seriously and have their own molds made, my cost to run the business last year was app 13k. This month alone I will be over 1k. So, unless you have a good day job, just pour for you and a few buddies, as this is a very enjoyable hobby. Yeah you will RW. ;D ;D I just spent 112 bucks on 2 molds. a fluke and a robo look alike. Super User Tin Posted January 5, 2008 Super User Posted January 5, 2008 If you just want to do it for "fun" that's great, but you won't save any money! So $110 start kit off line and a $20 cooking pan=$130 If you get the mixture right you can make perfect senkos, I mean identical in every way. So 1 senko= $0.60, so if you pour 217 baits you have broken even, and have about enough materials left after you break even to make about 90 more. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 Oh I agree with you 100% on this Tin. You do save money in the long run. But then you buy more molds, colors, glitters, etc because your hooked. So you drop more and more. Good thing about al molds is if you sell them you can get just about all your money back and sometimes more. Depending on what it is. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 Tin, rework your numbers, if you are buying actual "senkos", you are paying more like 69.5 cents each, not .60. You are saving more than you think. El Grande, I 'd love to hear how those flukes perform for you, are they exact? Quote
Jay_G Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 GMAN bought the Fluke mold. Most of my stuff is custom molds with the exception of one. I do not pour flukes. As far as CPB (Cost per bait) that varies according to what your pouring. The 6" stick bait I pour requires about 1 cup of plastic to eight baits. I figured I get app. 640 baits per 5 gallons. I pour a triple laminate, so they require a little more time. It takes me about 2 hours to pour 50 good baits. I say good baits, because for every 15 I pour, I usually recycle one or two because of dents, etc.. On just the stick baits, by the time I take my net cost, I am averaging about $15 per hour. My numbers may be just a little off, but they are pretty close. Tin, rework your numbers, if you are buying actual "senkos", you are paying more like 69.5 cents each, not .60. Jeff C. Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 El.Gr... 2-hours for 50 baits.. 15.00 per. hour.. does that mean your seling the baits for $ 15.00 for 25 baits..?? or,, your making $ 15.00 hour after "all" product is paid for.. ---------------------- 6" stick bait is 8 baits per cup-wow .. they must be huge.. 640 baits per 5 gal. most guys get that per. gallon. Jay_G Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 That's net and I am only using the stick bait as an example. Gross for 50 baits is $44.50 and I have app. $15 into cost to make those 50 baits. The hourly wage thing is just something I do to convince myself that it is worth a couple extra hours a day to make these for people other than myself. Jay_G Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Once again, this will either encourage or discourage someone wanting to pour for profit. I just got an order for 350 packs (1700 baits). That's over 30 hours minimum for me alone to do. I have to have help, which will eat profit. I do not have enough molds to do this in a timely manner, Therefore in the last 30 minutes, I ordered 7 more aluminum molds at $80 each to be delivered tomorrow just to make sure I make this person happy by getting him the baits in a timely manner. My profit went into new molds which isn't a bad thing, but I am trying to open the eyes for anyone thinking they will make an easy buck doing this. That is very hard to do. My cousin, a patent attorney quoted me 10-20k for a patent on one of my designs! I had planned on no less than 4. Now you know why designers who patent their work have a reason to pursue legal action. There is much cost involved. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 , I 'd love to hear how those flukes perform for you, are they exact? I've got a few ideas in my head of how to make the fluke better. We will see what happens in the aquarium test and the fish test. Now I just need the mold to get here. Quote
Geronimo Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Nice job cooking those worms! Hope you added some BBQ sauce! Quote
