Robert Riley Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 What kind of line do you prefer for topwaters? Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted January 20, 2015 Super User Posted January 20, 2015 I like mono. Need it to float, and prefer having some stretch for any trebles. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 20, 2015 Global Moderator Posted January 20, 2015 I like copolymer except for frogs. 2 Quote
Super User Sam Posted January 20, 2015 Super User Posted January 20, 2015 Mono 'cause it floats or braid, depending on the bait and presentation I want. Braid on frogs and toads all the time. Quote
Super User HoosierHawgs Posted January 20, 2015 Super User Posted January 20, 2015 Mono for everything except frogsDitto Quote

thehooligan Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 I like copolymer except for frogs. X2 Quote
cyclops2 Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Makes no difference to the fish or me. 4# braid. for everything. Quote
papajoe222 Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 As for knots, again it all depends what type of topwaters. For walking baits and floating minnows, I like a loop, or Rapala knot. For spoons and frogs, I prefer a palomar. For most others it will be one or the other depending on the action I'm trying to achieve. Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted January 20, 2015 Super User Posted January 20, 2015 I fish all braid on all my rods, but choose to swap to either mono or FC topshots depending. So if it was a frog or buzzbait, straight braid. Popper or walking bait, then would fish a 10-15ft mono topshot. Quote
Robert Riley Posted January 20, 2015 Author Posted January 20, 2015 I'm rather surprised how few people use braid. I really like braid for walk the dog baits, the lack of stretch really seems to help that action. 1 Quote
DILLY07 Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Braid on any topwater. Fluro on all reels. 1 Quote
powerduster Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 I have always used braid. Most top waters I do are walk the dog type lures, so I don't know if switching to mono would be a benefit in regards to action. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted January 21, 2015 Super User Posted January 21, 2015 I'm fishing clear water & need loooong casts ` So it's braid. Especially nice on walking baits ~ Essential for Frogs. A-Jay Quote
Grantman83 Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Walking baits get 30lb braid and poppers get mono. With walking baits, I want more snap and the lack of stretch lets me really bomb them and get a good hookup at long distance. Also, they tend to have bigger hooks than the poppers I use so I'm not as worried about losing them. Poppers seem to do better for me with some forgiving line ala suffix siege. Quote
