papajoe222 Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Just picked up a PRD10LTE and am really impressed with the lightness and overall quality of this reel. The one thing I am wondering about is whether or not I should clean out any excess grease and maybe flush the spool bearings. This is my first Pinnacle, so I don't know if they pack a lot of grease in their reels. I've purchased a few brands other than Daiwa that do this. Anyone familiar with this reel that can give me a heads up? Also, is there an easy release for the palm plate? Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted January 20, 2015 Super User Posted January 20, 2015 Joe, I have it on good authority that you will be fishing with RW tomorrow. Ask him about his experience with the Pinnacle baitcasters. You will not be disappointed. Quote

papajoe222 Posted January 20, 2015 Author Posted January 20, 2015 I look forward to somehow getting together with RW, he didn't stick around last year. From what I've heard and seen, he's a real character. A joint outing could be beneficial to us both; He could learn a little about men's fashion sence from me and I might remember something I forgot about angling from him. 1 Quote

I'd really like to hear your thoughts..RoadWarrior did a great review on this reel and it was after reading it and along with recommendations from other members,I decided to purchase it.I'm a die hard Daiwa guy, I own nine of them and chose this over the Tatula as my next purchase. It's packed with features, light (5.6oz.) and the difference in price allowed me to add some tackle I'd been wanting. I honestly don't expect this reel to be the work horse my TDA's are or have the ability to cast light baits as easily as my Sols, but as a multipurpose reel I do have high expectations. I'll give it a couple of months of frequent use and attempt a shot at an unbiased review. 1 Quote

Super User Jeff H Posted January 24, 2015 Super User Posted January 24, 2015 Mine just showed up today. My spool bearings are so greased up it won't hardly spin at all. Never had one this slow ever before. I'm going to take it down this weekend and see how it ends up. Mine has a very slight knock when I spin the handle. Nothing to get worried about yet but it is there, and I expect it will be gone after I clean it out good. Just so everybody knows....the handle is 80mm. This was something I asked about awhile back, so just to make it clear, 80mm handle. I gotta find a 90mm handle for it eventually. Quote

Super User Jeff H Posted January 24, 2015 Super User Posted January 24, 2015 Now that's better! knock is gone, spool spins better. The main gear was just dry, needed a little grease. much smoother, no knock. Now I can fish this thing, but it'll be a few months yet. Could be a decent reel for the price and it's definitely nicer than the last Pinnacle I bought 5-6 yrs ago. I don't like the sharp edges on the grips but that is easily fixed since they are EVA. Other than that, I just wish it had a 90mm handle. Oh, and the drag is pretty decent, it's got a lot of power too! 1 Quote

papajoe222 Posted January 24, 2015 Author Posted January 24, 2015 I haven't given mine more than a glance and to back off the drag ans spin the spool. That's when I thought about cleaning out the spool bearings. I didn't see a release for the side plate. Did you have to break the reel down from the cranking side to access the spool? Quote

No ~ Simply turn / twist the front of side plate on the non reel handle side Down and you'll be in business. A-Jay Quote
papajoe222 Posted January 24, 2015 Author Posted January 24, 2015 No button to push, or slide with my fat, non nimble fingers? Now there is a feature more companies should incorporate into their smaller reels! Thanks A-Jay 2 Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted January 24, 2015 Super User Posted January 24, 2015 My spool bearings were PACKED with grease. I soaked awhile and then blew air through them and a LOT of grease still come out. My spool wouldn't even go 3 full revolutions as they came. They clean out well like any other bearing though Quote
papajoe222 Posted January 25, 2015 Author Posted January 25, 2015 FYI, the bushing in the cast control knob mics out the same as the one used on diawa alphas and the Sol. I saved the original bearings when I did the upgrades on my Sols so I just dropped one in to replace the bushing. A lot of grease in the cap also. Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted January 25, 2015 Super User Posted January 25, 2015 Yep, 3x8x4 bearing right? I did the same thing though I question if it will really make any difference, but why not since I have that bearing laying around. 1 Quote
