Ozark_Basser Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 My revo stx gen 3 still casts pretty good, but not near as good as it used to. I have every brake turned all the way off and it still won't get the distance it used to with the mag brake half way and two centrifugal brakes on. Another thing is that Ive found it has gotten much harder to backlash even with all the brakes turned off. A couple months ago I would have had a much harder time casting with all of the brakes off. What could be the problem? It's not from lack of lubricating. I oil the reel after almost every trip. Quote
Jaheff Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Are you oiling the spool bearings after almost every outing? You might be over lubricating, not letting the spool bearings to run free. Quote
bootytrain Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Clean the brake race, and see if your magnets still move in and out. Quote
a1712 Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Remove your bearings, soak in Acetone, relube with 1 drop of a light oil(designed for bearings) and reinstall. Since the real is apart check your brake system to make sure everything is working correctly. If this fails, send to DVT and it will return to you better than when it came out of the box. Brian. masterbass Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Agree that you might be over lubing the spool bearings. Flush them and add 1 drop and see if that helps. Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted January 18, 2015 Super User Posted January 18, 2015 Gonna have to agree with too much oil. One drop a month with almost daily use will keep it lubed. Quote
hatrix Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 The pinion might also be gunked up. Pop the spool out and stick a qtip in the pinion hole and clean it out. That can make a good impact on casting. Quote
Alpha Male Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 The pinion might also be gunked up. Pop the spool out and stick a qtip in the pinion hole and clean it out. That can make a good impact on casting. the revo stx has a 2 piece spool shaft and the pinion wont affect casting distance. like the others have said sounds like too much oil. when they say one drop they mean the smallest drop you can imagine. you only need enough to cover the surfaces. Ozark_Basser Posted January 18, 2015 Author Posted January 18, 2015 The mag brake does work along with the centrifugal break. I might have to clean them and relube. The issue might be over lubricating, but I ran out a fee trips back and still haven't noticed a difference. Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted January 18, 2015 Super User Posted January 18, 2015 Doesn't matter if you ran out a few trips back if for the last 18 you lubricated after each outing. You just keep building it up. There is absolutely zero need to add oil to anything after each trip. Quote

I'm gonna give it a while and see how it turns out. Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted January 18, 2015 Super User Posted January 18, 2015 Please clean your bearings. The more oil you have in there, the more dirt can build up between them causing subpar performance. Pop them out, clean them with acetone or lighter fluid, dry, and relube with a drop of oil. Sounds like a great project to do while watching the football games today. Shoot could get it done during one of the half times. 1 Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 The reel is in need of a deep cleaning. Bearing flush will serve in the interim but there is no replacement for a deep clean. 2 Quote
