troutbum1 Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 Hi, I'm new to the forum, semi new to bass fishing.I have spinning tackle for bass. I want a casting set up too. I have a Star rod 6'6" 12# to 20# line, 3/8 to 2 lure weight. What would be a decent casting reel for this rod, $100.00 and under, What line # is good for this set up ,Mono or braid. Thank's. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted January 17, 2015 Super User Posted January 17, 2015 A good, solid, do anything reel is the Shimano Citica G. Welcome to the forum by the way. You should check out the stickies at the top of this section. Some great info. Quote

Super User new2BC4bass Posted January 17, 2015 Super User Posted January 17, 2015 Welcome to the forum. A centrifugal brake (or a dual brake) is often the easiest to learn on. New at that price point I can suggest a Tatula, but I learned on magnetic brake only reels. Some are easier than others to learn on. The Tatula has a much wider braking adjustment than earlier Daiwas. Used will give you more options. Personally I think the T3 Ballistic would be your best option at $100. The Magforce 3D is a superior braking system to learn on as far as I am concerned. Very hard to backlash. I have magnetic only Gen 1 Abu reels, Shimano A, B and E reels, Lews and BPS dual brake, Pflueger centrifugal, Pflueger dual brake, Morrum Magtrax, older Ambassaduers (braking terminology unknown), Daiwa magnetic brakes from Magforce V to Magforce 3D. My T3 1016 reels with the Magforce 3D are the only ones I can cast with zero brakes and not backlash or overrun with disastrous results. If you don't mind round reels then I can suggest Abu. I find the Black Max 1600C to be a very forgiving reel. I can only assume the larger models are as well. No experience with Shimano round reels. Quote
