I had a bass fisherman ask me to teach him how to bass fish with shiners. I agreed and said I would furnish everything. Once on the lake and anchored in a good spot I demonstrated how to hook the shiner and I made the cast. I peeled off some slack line and handed the rod to my friend. I told him to keep slack in the line and when he saw the line being pulled off the reel at a steady rate, take up the slack and set the hook like he was trying to break the rod. In a few minutes his line took off and he did exactly as instructed, even broke my rod in half :)

Being an idiot. Pulling line out of the tip when the rod is vertical, high sticking fish and hallway fishing, i have even had a salmon run in between my legs while wading and snap my new 13' float rod. :( this is gonna be a painful thread.

Broke one of my dad's old BPS flippin sticks when I was a kid trying to swing a 3-4 pound carp onto the dock at LOZ with braided line. He was pleased about that one. Buddy stepped on one of my BPS Bionic Blades in the back of my truck a few years ago, crunched the blank on one of the ribs in the bed. Didn't realize until the next week when I was crappie fishing with my wife, set the hook and the rod just snapped in two.

Fell face first into a pile of rocks.  Broke my heart, too.  Was my favorite rod at the time...a 7' MF Falcon Expert.  Took a couple weeks for the injuries to heal.

Yes- all on hook sets with braid.

Various brands and all on the first or close to the first trip out.

I was trying to beat the American Flag off my boat with my rod and it gave up first.

I think I know what you're referring to here, but you may want to fill in the blanks a little.

As a stand alone statement, it may not be saying what you want it to.

btw - I'm hoping that was not one of his proudest moments, yet he keeps having them.

It makes the point I want....  Don't worry, I took a bunch of pictures with some kids afterwards so it made it ok.

I have broke a few rods, st croix tiumph, shimano convergence, and a fenwick HMX. All of them were broke in the same manner, using braid fishing a jig around wood, feel a "bite" and don't completely reel in the slack before swinging to find out the bite was a log. all of these broke about 18 inches from the tip where the rod starts to shut down into the power section of the rod.  I have since figured out how to correctly set the hook and have not broken a rod since ( about 3 years)...

I once broke a Carrot Stix rod.  But not like you would think.  I made a cast at a willow tree that has some low hanging branches near the water and became a little tangled in them.  I twitched and popped the line trying to get it loose until I became a little frustrated.  I then tried to break the line off and of course it came loose, it shot back at me at a speed that was impressive, I could see this bullet weight spinning in the air and heading directly toward me, it was like one of those slow motion effects in the Matrix.  Suddenly before loosing a tooth the bullet weight hit very flush on the rod blank and fell to the ground.  A couple of fish later and snap goes the Carrot Stix.

I did once while fishing. A few years back I was using a Carbonlite I believe. Fishing in the pads at the glades, a very nice bass slammed my bait, I reared back and set the hook. However something changed when I was wrestling the fish out of the pads and my rod snapped. Lost a great fish and rod in the same situation. lol.. Fortunately, the CL was still under warranty, and I picked myself up a new one, no questions asked. I learned my lesson since then and no more rods have been broken. LOL...

Not broken but I left a team daiwa t on the deck and as we were leaving...Bump! Flew right off and I was completely unaware.

Two last year, one the year before, and one as a kid.  The 2 last year were both under warranty, one was a pinnacle and I was casting a spinnerbait and the top 4" just came off and the other was a Abu Garcia veritas where the guide insert in the tip came out somehow.

If a door or trunk lid does not fully close ? Slam it.

I've only had two rods break that I truly felt were due to a manufacturer defect.

The rest were due to my clumsiness and stupidity.

And few in the ceiling fan.

Got a Vendetta  a year or two ago from Walmart when they were on sale for cheap. First cast with a weightless senko and that sucker snapped. Im gonna blame it on being from Walmart and someone mishandled it. Also horsing a snag. That was a dumb one. That was about 200 feet down the bank after catching my PB at the time.

 Wimpies use rod & reel.

Real men use hand lines.

You're on a roll today.

I have broke two since around 1991.   First was a Team Daiwa flippin' stick that got caught under a rope cleat on a boat.  When I picked it up I heard a slight crunch and setting the hook on the very next fish snapped it in two.   The second one was a 7' medium heavy that a rod locker door came down on.   I did have another one break by my step father.   He wasn't using it, he was resting on it as he was power heaving over the side of the boat while fishing in a heavy chop on Lake Erie.   lol

Yes a shimano compre. I had a few cold ones and decided to test its durability and well the rest is history.

Had a Fenwick Hmx explode in my face on a hookset. Guess I shouldn't be fishing a Texas rig on 6' M

Broke only one and it was while fishing, but had nothing to do with fishing really. Was catfishing with my cousin and we were sitting back in some shade. My rod started getting dragged in so I jogged down to get it. I picked it up and hammered back a hookset, not knowing my cousin had ran down to grab it as well. Nailed him across the head and shoulder with the rod and snapped it like a twig. I was mad, but it was too funny to be too upset.
