Packers41280 Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 Hello everyone. I have been fishing for about three years. Fishing is alright here in NW Indiana, just can't find anything outside of Lake Michigan. I go up to Maryland every summer to fish with my grandfather, and we have a great time. Last year I caught a big 13 inch perch and a couple footlong LMB. Had a great time as usual. I got some new equipment today from Dicks Sporting Goods since I had a gift card. Rapala Husky Jerk x2 Rapala Ultra Light Countdown Rapala Ultra Light Rattlin' Rapala Ultra Light Fat Rap Rapala Ultra Light Floating Hopefully I will be able to go out today before it gets dark, there is a small pond near us that is good for testing weight and feel of the lures. Also, where can I go to get treble hooks. The Original has red treble hooks and I am not a big fan of those. Thanks Quote

Super User A-Jay Posted January 16, 2015 Super User Posted January 16, 2015 Thanks for replying A Jay. What size/brand would you recommend? You're welcome. You can find the original hook sizes for the baits you've listed on the Rapala site (see link) http://www.rapala.ca/products/ultra-light-minnow As for a brand, Rapala uses VMC, which are good. I also like the Mustad KVD Elite line as well as Gamakatsu. Whether you choose round bend or EWG is a personal preference, they both work well. But be sure to select a wire size that's close to the original as many of those baits are quite light. If you "Over hook" you'll risk changing the action of the bait. Good Luck A-Jay Quote
Super User HoosierHawgs Posted January 17, 2015 Super User Posted January 17, 2015 Hey, another Hoosier! Also, I don't have a problem with red trebles. But often times replacing stock hooks is a good idea. It definitely helps on lure where the stock hooks are not so sticky! Quote
