Saw two new JDM Shimanos on Japan Tackle tonight listed as new 2015 reels. One is the Metanium DC, the other is an Aldeberan in a 50 frame. The Aldeberan looks like a cross between a smaller Curado I and the Chronarch CI4+. Might hopefully mean some new USDM Shimanos being released soon?

Edit: sorry i just read the 2015 reels post and seems this news maybe already well known.

New Aldebaran weight at 4.7 oz You can see the svs adjustment dial and shallower spool. Frame might be made of CI4+, but the price suggests it may stay Magnesium.

Yup, seems it advertises a ci4+ side plate..

Magnesium & Ci4+ that's a sweet reel right there!

If it's a Mag reel..

Am I the only person feel those two reels look like ninja turtles?

Nah, I'm with you. I don't think I'm going to buy one.

4.7 oz is impressive. However to be honest it would be difficult to balance on most rod especially for heavier applications.

I'm in the market for another reel, looking for something that will pitch really well and was debating between another Chronarch CI4+, a Metanium, or a Core/Chronarch 50. Seeing the new Aldeberan and the disappearance of the Chronarchs/Cores from BPS site and catalog hoping there's some new options coming out at the classic. Would I be correct to assume the new Aldeberan is more finesse oriented then the Metanium?

Definitely! It'll be a 50 series I believe so right off the bat I assume it'll be a shallower spool. I still don't think it'll be a true all out finesse reel as the Adlebaran BFS takes that role.

That spool does look a lot shallower than the current Aldebaran

That's what I thought, and the listed line capacity is about 30yd less then a Chronarch 50.

They might shock us and release the BFS version alongside the regular version.

This is one of the ugliest reels from Shimano. That hood doesn't look right to me. My opinion might change when I see some better pictures though.

The Aldebaran doesn't have a "shallow" spool persay, though capacity is limited due to the size. Capacity is: 10/100-12/80-14/70

Only 5 yards less than the Core 50.

You're right it's closer to the Chronarch/Core 50s then I stated. The 30 yd difference was a comparison to the Metanium.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A NEW 50 SIZE LOW PRO!!!!!!!!!!! I bet they come out with a USDM version for Icast.

Based on recent years, I'm assuming they just bring the Aldebaran here and raise the price, ie. Antares, Conquest, Metanium.
