Am I  the only one who think that televised fishing tournaments are somewhat boring? I don't like the way they are run today. We are told how many fish they catch and even what the fish weighs, and the total courrent weight the pro. has in the boat. We are even told if they are in 1st--5th place. Makes the weigh in anti-climatic for me almost no point of watching the weigh in. I like the way the tourney's where run 10 yrs. ago. You saw the fish caught and put in the livewell without the running total of the weight, You had no idea who won until the weigh in.

I do still like to see what lures are being used, how, where and why. I like to see the cover fished. I still learn some tips from them. And I do like to see a nice fish added to the livewell. But in the end the outcome of the tournament is lack luster in my opionion. What are your thoughts?

It doesn't bother me one bit, fo the same reason I don't mind knowing which football or basketball team is winning as the game goes.  Plus the weights are unofficial, so it won't always be 100% correct if a couple of them are close.

well since tourneys are never live to me it doesn't really matter.  I still enjoy watching them every once in a while to earn some things but to me, tournament fishing isn't really that great for TV.

Basically this. I feel like it would be cool if you could cover everything live, but then that takes 8 hours, and then you can't cover it like you can a basketball game, because its impossible to truly be around all the action. If they could find a solution to this, it would be great, but I don't think they ever will.

I don't watch fishing tournaments, but of the bits and pieces of the few bass and walleye I've seen, not even exciting enough to be classified as boring.  When I see a fish hooked then look at the sweep hand of my watch I see the fish landed in 10-15 seconds or less.  Dragging a fish in at warp speed is something I certainly don't want to do, so why would I watch.

I do love the outbursts of excitement with a 3# fish, understandable considering the money involved.  These walleye guys make the bass guys look good.

I love watching bass tournaments, like mentioned above its kinda like football or other sports, you know the score the whole game... The weigh in to me isn't really what I'm intrested in unless I'm actually at the tournament in person.

Sirsnookalot, I can see why you would like to fight a fish considering you are a saltwater angler and fight huge fish that actually take work to get landed but bass fishing is to me more about the pursuit of the bass than the catch/fight.

I think the BASS/FLW TV programs are more enjoyable if you are tournament guy.  I like to see the decision making and time management stuff they go through...The fish catching part is sort of secondary to me. I always follow the trails so I already know who won, I still like to see it happen.  I love watching them, wish they were longer!

Seeing a guys hard work pay off with a narrow victory or watching the heartbreak of losing a fish is a cool thing...Zona is always good for a laugh on the BASS shows too :).

Sure there are commercials and sponsors everywhere...But it's nothing like the half-hour infomercial that most regular fishing shows have become.

Knowing the result before you watch certainly kills the excitement but I still enjoy the shows. Look to learn what I can from it.

I have come to really enjoy MLF though.  All the two minute penalties, the new guys that haven't quite grasped the actual penalty until they get one and have to sit patiently doing nothing until that two minutes or more is up.  Saw a newbie have a short fish drop in the boat, then picked it up and tossed it out.  Fish didn't even count and he had to sit for 4 min.  Now that format is entertaining.

Hey, just a new part of an unoffical rule in tournaments with locks.......when the gate closes, it's UBF (Ultimate Bassmasster Fighter) winner gets to exit the locks first.

Lets just hope they use lock masters that look like the UFC ring girls.

And if we get more then 2 in the locks, it can be an over the side of the boat battle royal.  Just have to watch for low blows when they are in the water.  Gotta keep it clean....and no using of outboards or trolling motors.  Flipping sticks are okay though.

Don't think for second that all fish we catch in the salt are huge, we catch plenty of 1 & 2 pound fish.  Not much different than bass fishing as we have to hunt them down as well.  Some people think it's a fish a cast in salt, nothing could be further from the truth.  Whether it's 1# fish or much larger I want all I can get from that fish, for me it's all about the fight, not dragging them in at supersonic speed.   I do understand why it's done but not wanting to fish that way I have no interest in seeing someone do it on TV.

I would love to see a 800# gorilla reel in some pros at the same speeds. Then lift them up like they lift bass by the lower jaw & turn the jaw downward until the back is straight out............... NEAT O.

With on-demand content being the way of the future, you don't need a TV network to cover it. A lot of poeple don't even watch TV. They stream shows off Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon. I can see subscribing to BASS or FLW and watching live all day through internet on a smart TV or computer or tablet.

The real challenge is getting the action on film. Golf succeeds in all day telecasts by switching between competitors and showing their actions. The only difference between that and fishing is you know when a golfer will hit a shot, not when an angler will catch a fish. Maybe put it on a 15 minute delay so productiom crews can select the catches, misses, and other things of interest.

The main problem I see is the distance. Golf courses are big but they aren't Kentucky Lake and Okeechobee big. How do you keep cameras uplinked and powered all day on the water and their signal back? I don't know.

I'd much rather watch a recap show reporting on all the tourneys for the week with highlights interviews and some where why how thrown in. Even then most of what they share is BS. I like MLF because the production is the driving force behind it.

I actually enjoyed the tournaments when Ray Scott ran them... Not so much these days.
