Thanks for the help A little over your budget but the Stradic Ci4 and Ci4+ has the Black and Red Motiff. I have the Rarenium Ci4 (its Japanese cousin) drag is smooth. Quote

Suggest to check it out on your local store if they have it or ask a buddy who has it and fish with it a few times. Why buy a reel and have it be automatically outdated? The Revo spinners are very smooth and mine have been tougher than the pitiful CI4's were. They've handles much bigger fish, their only down side is the modular takedown is not easy to work on. The Penn is basically a Pfeluger made for tougher conditions and you have the insurance that it comes from a company that has a history of keeping spare parts available for decades and bend over backwards customer service. There is a difference between ordering parts and sending a reel in for repair. The repair facility will have the parts, but to order a part to fix reel yourself that part may be out of stock on back order. Quote

But they would be glad to charge me to fix it if I send it to them. They somehow magically have the parts if i send the reel to them. Quote

Then pay labor and the price of the part with the middlemans mark up. A shimano will never touch my hands again. Quote

He told me the turn around time would be over a month if i sent it in to shimano. He told me to just go buy a new reel of the same model somewhere and return the problem reel if I wanted it back sooner. What stellar customer service! Please elaborate on why you consider their customer service to be a model for other companies. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted January 16, 2015 Super User Posted January 16, 2015 I am not big on Shimano's Customer Service either but that does not mean I don't like their reels or will it stop me from recommending them. The few times I have called, I get the sense that they are overwhelmed with work and short on answers to their own problems. As far as service goes, I have sent one reel to them over the years and it came back in fantastic, better than new condition (Calais reel by the way) but it took months. As far as parts goes, I called a local tackle shop and they had all of what I need for my old bantam curado 201 bsf. As far as the future goes, I think I'll be sending my reels to guys like DVC if I need to but so far all of my Shimano reels are in perfect working order (some are 8 years old and no parts replaced). If you want to see what Shimano service is like watch the first few minutes of this video. You will see just how many reels they have to go through and this video is five years old. There are actually 5 parts to this and they are all very informative. Back to the OP question though. Shimano Stradic.... Quote
