KritterGitter Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 I have a chance to buy a 6' Legend Elite Medium power, fast action, casting rod for a good price. What would you guys use this rod for? I dont wanna buy a rod just because its a good price and not use it. Quote
OntarioFishingGuy Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Topwaters, jerkbaits, light t-rigs, maybe small spinnerbaits. 1 Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted January 14, 2015 Super User Posted January 14, 2015 For bass, jerkbaits. I would put a BFS reel on it and use it for crappie and bluegill. 1 Quote
KritterGitter Posted January 14, 2015 Author Posted January 14, 2015 Topwaters, jerkbaits, light t-rigs, maybe small spinnerbaits. Would the rod be stout enough for topwaters and jerks? I was mainly thinkin it would be a weightless plastic setup, but if thats all it is Ill stick with my spinning gear for that. I didnt know if the rod could be used for finesse jigs or anything of the likeness... For bass, jerkbaits. I would put a BFS reel on it and use it for crappie and bluegill. Im not much in the way of fishing for panfish, more of a by catch of the occasional crappie. Thanks for the suggestion though. Quote
Super User S Hovanec Posted January 14, 2015 Super User Posted January 14, 2015 St Croix's medium is pretty powerful compared to other brands. Power wise, it would be good for topwater, but its too short for my preference. 1 Quote
Poolshark Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 I prefer the shorter rods for topwater and jerkbaits. I think st croix medium fast is a good taper and power for those baits as well yet stout enough to be used for spinnerbaits and senkos. Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted January 14, 2015 Super User Posted January 14, 2015 4" senko = .245oz, roughly 1/4 oz 5" senko = .350oz, roughly 1/3 oz That doesn't include the hook. Be wary of your lure ratings, if you go that route. Quote

Thanks for the suggestion though. A St Croix medium is not stout, but it's usually a little more powerful than a typical medium. I think you could throw small popper or spooks, small jerkbaits, 1/4oz spinnerbaits, 1/4oz jigs, weightless plastics, etc. I don't know how well it will set the hook on weightless plastics though. I prefer a longer, slightly stiffer rod, because you need to pick up some line and have enough backbone to get the hook to pierce the plastic; I am sure it would be sufficient, especially with light wire hooks. It's a pretty versatile little rod, given the length. Quote
KritterGitter Posted January 14, 2015 Author Posted January 14, 2015 Thanks for the suggestions and opinions guy . I think I'll give the rod a go and if I don't like it I can move it along to the next perso . Quote
