Green Trout Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 What is the best bait for numbers of fish? I couldn't care less about size, but I want numbers. I fish nothing but wood so I can't use open/ exposed hooks as they will get snagged. What is the best bait for my situation? Thanks so much! Quote

Super User fishballer06 Posted January 14, 2015 Super User Posted January 14, 2015 If you're trying to avoid getting snagged, you're going to have to go with a Texas rig or topwater. Quote
BassSlayer71 Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Drop shot will catch quite a few fish. Or it has for me. 1 Quote

Super User Choporoz Posted January 14, 2015 Super User Posted January 14, 2015 Fishing from bank or boat? Are you truly limited to timber, or is that your comfort zone? Don't completely rule out trebles. Depending on the situation, you may find you can satisfactorily work squarebills through wood. May take some time to get confidence to do so, but it could be worth it. Sounds like weightless or lightly weighted plastics is where you need to be. Finesse-y presentations; mojo weights, small swim jigs, etc. Quote
Super User scaleface Posted January 14, 2015 Super User Posted January 14, 2015 A Texas rigged 6 inch Jelly worm has to be one of the top producers maybe the top producing worm in history . Quote
crankbank Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 T rigged baby brush hog, watermelon red. Catches fish from the size of the bait up to lunkers. This. Put a gun to my head and tell me I need to catch fish, no matter the size... Without thinking, I am grabbing a baby brush hog. A great lure, and pretty cheap. Also, it may be user error, or not giving it a fair chance, but I bought a bag of regular brush hogs and did not like them at all. The larger size did not have the action, specifically the tail wiggle, that I love with the smaller size ones. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted January 14, 2015 Super User Posted January 14, 2015 My solution is the picture to the left. Quote

Step your weight size up and watch them come to life. I like using the big ones down in deeper water. Especially deep, submerged brush. Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted January 14, 2015 Super User Posted January 14, 2015 Any time I take someone with me that's new to fishing and want to make sure they catch fish. I set them up with a weightless Tx rigged white zoom fluke or weightless Tx rigged 4" green pumpkin senko. It's never failed me yet. Quote

Usually I only use them in shallow situations, it would be nice to toss the bigger ones when I'm out deep. I will definitely give that a go next time I am on the water... in a couple months... Quote

Tony L. Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 A 4 inch weightless Texas rigged Senko - Boom. A-Jay This one... but I'm biased because it has become my go-to bait when others aren't working. I'm sure other lures would produce well too if only I fished them with the same amount of confidence that I have in the Senko. 1 Quote
Violinguy Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 A 4 inch weightless Texas rigged Senko - Boom. A-Jay A thousand times, THIS. I tried to use other baits, but the weightless Senko kept catching fish when other baits wouldn't. Quote

If I am taking someone fishing I really really want them to catch some fish to have fun so 90% of the time I will give them a 4" Green Pumpkin Senko rigged weightless. A 1/4 oz Chartresuse White tandem spinnerbait would be good for numbers too Quote

mjseverson24 Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 If you know how to use a jig a 1/4-1/2 oz jig-n-pig is about as good as it gets around wood... if not a weightless senko is an easy way to put fish in the boat... Mitch 1 Quote
