Best Floating Worm For Shaky Heads?

So I just bought some Shaky Head Jig Heads on Tackle Warehouse, so now I just need to get some worms. I have Roboworms Zoom Finesse worms Zoom trick Worms, but I want a very buoyant worm that stands straight up. Thanks! -Garrett

Zman is about a buoyant as it gets.

Try some Zman Elaztech worms, I keep finding them at the clearance bin at my local wally world. They float at almost a 90 degree angle to the bottom and are pretty durable.

Basstrix Loco-motion worms, they will do what you want. I do have a word of caution for you, don't get hung up on using only floating plastics or you will miss out. I'm saying this because I've had really good days with a worm loaded with salt, in fact it, along with 2 other salt filled worms are my best producing baits. I use the Basstrix Loco-motion worms for the times when the stand up presentation is needed and I find that clear water is one of the times a floating worm on a shaky head is a great presentation.

That they are..............but depending on the heads you got they might be a royal PITA to rig and keep rigged. The Berkley Havoc Bottom Hopper worms are what I use, they are more buoyant than the Zoom and Robo worms you have, but not as buoyant as the Z-man or SK Elaztech worms,. BUT, FWIW, your Zoom and Robo worms will work and work fine on shaky heads, the "floating" worm thing on a shaky is over stated, and IMHO in most situations kind of nonsense.

Absolutely, I guess there may be times the subtle action of a worms tail rising off the bottom may score more bites (really cold water when fishing very slowly mayhaps?), but I've never seen a difference. Goes right along with the need for a shakyhead that stands up in my book.

My thoughts exactly! I used a bunch of different style shaky heads before I decided to make my own. I did this because I wanted to see which was the best so the first ones I used were the stand up models, let me tell you, in a controlled environment like a fish tank, stand up heads look like the real deal but on a lake bottom, well, it isn't always perfect. Anyway, after much fishing I came to two conclusions, even though it took an extra second to rig, the screw lock is what works for me, it holds a worm better than the alternatives, the other thing is a ball head style works well and compares favorably to stand up heads, in fact I'm not sure stand up is always best. I also said before, not to get hung up on floating worms, they do have their place but for me it is clear water, my best producing worms are non-buoyant.

Watching Joe Bucher on TV this past weekend got me very interested in the Uncle Josh pork worms. Wacky rigging and stopping the jig in the water, the worm really came alive! Just gotta try this one.

The Gambler Giggy Stick floats and work well, the products from Hag's also float.

I agree with all of the above and echo that I believe the only time the "stand up" presentation needs to be exact would be cold, clear water. If that's your environment, then by all means get some high end heads and some shaky "specific" worms. They will do wonders. I like zman and roboworm and big bite squirrel tail myself.

But day in and day out, I use a jig head bps makes that has a 3/0 gammy in a 1/8oz head, and texpose a zoom trick worm on it. I do just fiiiiineee with it. And I save alot of money.

I mainly use roboworms and zoom on my shaky head setups, and most of the worms in the package work as they should.

Hags Tornado stands straight up and has some really nice colors. I use the 5" size. Great scent too.

I believe that if they are hitting the bait as it falls it probably does not matter if the worm floats . That said it is my opinion that a buoyant soft bait will get you more bites over the course of season especially on tough days when you need to deadstick it.. I've done very well with getting 5" or 6" Senko profile baits poured without salt and it seems to attract a bigger bite on average than a Roboworm for me .That said I get it poured by a local hand pour guy and many probably won't try it because it's not a brand name that they can pick up at a BPS or TW , the Hag's Tornado would probably be a good alternative. 

 

I prefer a 1/4 football head with a mag hook for the beefier senko profile or 3/8 oz if it's extra deep or windy . Another great bait if you are after bigger fish is try the Xcite bait Maximus which has accounted for a couple of 20 lb plus ( big for Michigan largemouth ) stringers for me or in the very least an occasional kicker fish . It's not as consistent for me as the Senko profile but the Big Girls really like it at times. Xcite offers jigheads  to match this bait or sometimes I will use a Mag Title shot with a more pointed nose when fishing grass .

The Yum Mightee worm is 10" and will stand vertical, most worms do, recently i grabbed some mr. twister worms the bubble poc it paddle tails which are much different than I anticipated...translucent colors, great detail, unique action, buoyant and overall good baits, creatures are great on a shaky head, if you have a good shaky jig and it lands upright like the megastrike jig heads, I find even a ribbon tail or senko stands upright. I do like the squirell tail and also the bass pro magnum floating lizards just make sure you soak in scent.

 

ELazach and zman, luck e strike makes a killer worm which is shape of a pro senko and has eyes...I do well with them they come 5 in a hard package and match up with their shaky heads but I don't do well with them, like megastrike, Yum Pumpkinhead, and alien heads by owner and some customs my buddy gave me, I like to use baits I can swim on a shaky head as well, so swim senkos and the big bite version or strike king zulu flukes are good

I just ordered some Kicker Fish Hightail Holeshot Shaky Worms from TW. They have little holes in them that have trapped air or something that keeps those suckers floating pretty well, from what I have seen.  I have yet to use them, but I have had good luck with other Kicker Fish worms.  They are also injected with JJs magic which I like, so I am stoked to give them a go.  I would also suggest Charmer Baits.good baits. Its a small company but they make very .  They are made without salt so they float very well yet feel like the normal plastic unlikethe elaztech.  I was fishing a tournament last spring having a crazy hard time getting my last 2 fish in the boat.  Tried quite a few baits, but this was the one that got my last 2 fish in the boat.  Love the Charmers.  I would suggest them.

Cool worm - will release bubbles from time to time due to captured air in the holes .

Shaky head is my favorite technique.  I use PowerTeam Lures 5" & 7" Finicky Ticklers and their 5" Sick Sticks.  They are neutrally buoyant and flat out catch fish.  Drop me a line if you need more information.
