The one thing that's really bothering me is the motor obviously isn't a 2009 like the boat is. I contacted the dealer and they said it's an '07 with 75 hours on it. My last boat had a little 4 stroke 60hp Mercury that was about as dependable as they come. Super User ww2farmer Posted January 14, 2015 Super User Posted January 14, 2015 FWIW...........I know nothing about bigger motors, like you my boat has a smaller 4-stroke..................BUT, my boat is an 07' model year hull with a 06' motor...........new from Tracker Marine/BPS. I ordered my boat in Dec. of 06' and they got it in Feb. of 07' so they were probably using the remaining stock of 06' motors on the early 07' builds. Maybe that situation is what you have there? That is actually the exact boat I want to get one day, color and everything. It looks like a roomy and reliable boat. Just look at the motor really well for oil leaking in multiple places Quote
BassnChris Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 I understand from my credit union that this is very common.......at least from the boat business they are involved in. It does not seem too far out the expected to me...................like stated earlier........just using up the stock of motors they have. BTW very nice looking boat. My last boat was 18'-6" 2001 procraft 185 pro ............performed very nicely on the water. The only reason I moved to another boat (2009 Procraft 210 Super Pro) was a little more room for 3 of us fishing out my boat and to get a Single console. Both of my boats are sister boats to the Nitro since Tracker purchased Procraft in 1999 ( I think) and continued the line until 2009. Quote

The hours on it are just a good number of brake in hours so it should good. What size motor is on the boat. It says rated for 200HP but don't see anything showing what size is actually on it? Have you checked to see if the price has been adjusted for the older motor? I edited my first post because I thought I saw it had a 135 on which if it does, I will go back to saying you could not give it to me if I had to use it. Quote

The hours on it are just a good number of brake in hours so it should good. Where I have a problem is that boat is seriously under powered and will be a real dog performance wise. You get much of a load and it's going to be a ***** coming out of the hole and forget any kind of real speed. I also think it's way over priced with that motor. Personally, you couldn't give it to me if you told me I had to use it. X2 Quote

It's a 150hp motor and going off prices of other 09 Z7's on the market, this one is a couple grand cheaper so I'm assuming it's been taken into account. Quote
Thornback Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 I can't speak to a 150 but I have owned a 60 Merc 4-stroke for 10 years and it has never been in a shop, never failed to start, never failed to run idle or WOT. That is definitely a great looking boat. If the boat can handle up to 200 HP and it has a 150 that is 3/4 of it's rating and I always heard that was minimum. Ask to take it out on the water and find out how she runs -- the proof of the pudding is in the eating. Quote

Personally not a Mercury fan either but they aren't bad motors by any means. I would use it as a bargaining point though, because not only is it a few years older, it's also smaller than what the boat is rated for. In the end that really doesn't matter that much, but it's something you could use that might help you get the price down a little more. Quote

I wonder why the motor is 2 years older than the boat. Johnny Morris' Tracker Marine is way too big to have to use 2 year old motors on a boat. Very few even put one on a year model older. If I were wanting that boat and willing to buy it I'd offer 14,250.97 and see the counter. Don't even round it off to the nearest dollar. That would give them something to think about, thinking you know more than you actually may, and you a bargaining point to start. Don't feel bad about offering lower than they want. You never know what they really have in it. Quote

I've only owned if for a season, but it has been a very good motor to me. It is an '07 and can still get me pretty close to 60 mph. As far as I know it hasn't ever had any major work done, and I had it looked at by a dealer last week and they said everything still looks good. Mine has just over 200 hours on it, which is a fair amount more than the one you're looking at. My only slight complaint is that it does smoke a little bit at idle, but from what I understand that's normal for older 2-strokes. I'm going fishing this weekend, and you'd be free to come along and drive my boat around if that would help your decision any. Quote
joefish Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Never owned a Merc but since the engine is a earlier year than the boat would assume it is original. The first boat I owned new had an engine that was a year earlier vintage than boat. I would not be concerned unless you plan on reselling the rig in a short time. If you plan to keep it and use for a long time...... go for it. Quote
