Alligator Alley Mm38

[Bass Commander]

Sky partly cloudy, water. Stained 70*, wind from the east at 10-15 mph. I fished both north and south sides around the mm38 mark. Lots of blue gills popping the cabbage drifting down the canals. Fished various hollow body frogs most of the day trying to get more proficient with them. Didn't have so much as a bite until noon I was there all day from 9 am till 530 pm only bite of the day was a 4 lber hugging the bank on a live target frog.

Thanks for the report! They should be in pre-spawn/spawn mode.  Hollow bodys rock!! Anytime I throw one, I have fun imitating a real frog, waiting for that explosion. Never gets old! Try throwing a prop bait along the pads next time, like a ole school devils horse. Their a blast to throw out there.  Did you see any freshly made beds? Were there bucks on them? I'm gonna hit up the finger canals soon. Will report back..

What's up Jose!! That was long day you put in. Heck,  I did just about the same thing a couple of weeks ago and practically did the same thing. The only difference was that I caught 4 fish 3 dinks and 1, 4lbr as well. Instead of the frog surprisingly, it slammed a mouse!! LOL!! I posted this pic on here already i think but in case you didn't see it, here it is.

No I hadn't I've been gone working but got a weeks vacation so I'm trying to catch em up. I plan on going to the canals off 27 by holey land tomorrow. Gonna leave house at 5 am so I can be in water by first light and probably staying till dusk. I just can't get enough time on the water. No I didn't see any beds at the alley water was Incredibly dirty and no visibility. I am working on my weakness which is surely topwater so I'll probably throw frogs most of the day tomorrow as well. I'll post another report. I have a pic of the 4lber but it's too large and I can't post it and I can't figure out how to resize it.

I would skip the topwater for now and get some jerk baits and flukes going...unless the fish want a topwater. Right now the Chug Bug and Pop-r are getting strikes off US 27. Nothing compared to a Fluke or Senko.

Dido Captain Shane.   You hit the nail on the head.  Sunday I fished the same area with little action on a frog, but steady action on the stick-o all morning.   Feed them what they want.

As I've only been bass fishing for 1 year now, and still trying to understand the patters, what's the theory behind the fluke working at this time.  Is it because fish are in prespawn and feeding?  It's great to know what's working at the moment, but I'm always curious on why it's working.

Backlash, Flukes and senkos are like dying critters in the water that they eat all the time.  Jerk it and let it flutter down.  A lot of hits happen while falling or sitting on the bottom.  Just like the rest of the animal kingdom they target the easy meals.  The weak and dying.  Jerk then let it sit.  Use as little weight as possible so you get a lot of flutter and glide on the initial fall. 

 

There are fish in all phases of the life cycle in south Florida.  Although the spawning phase has started in some areas it is by far not the peak of South Florida spawning.  Fish down here will also spawn more then just once a year.  Without as extreme seasons as way up north, the spawn will continue for some time.

Thanks for the info George. I've been fishing Trick worms and 10.5 worms lately, with some success, but the bite has been slowing down. I'll start throwing more senkos and flukes.
