Mass Bassin' Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 Good luck charms: my lucky hat, 50 cal. bullet, and ALWAYS eat lucky charms cereal before every tourney. superstitions: no bananas, women, and pork. Quote
WarEagleBassin Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 My daughter bought me a "lucky" fishing hat Christmas before last. I have not been skunked since i started wearing it and caught my 2 best largemouth bass with it on. Gotta stick with it. Why risk it? 1 Quote
BaitMonkey1984 Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 One superstition I have is that if I see a Bald Eagle I will stink it up the rest of the day. I can not seem to catch a fish after i see one. I love seeing Bald Ealges, but I try not to look into the air when someone says they are around. If I catch a catfish I am skunked the rest of the day too. It usually happens with live bait, and predominantly through the ice. I hooked up with a cat trolling one day and just brought in my lines- I knew I was done. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted March 13, 2015 Super User Posted March 13, 2015 When I get up to go fishing I go do my routine every morning in the dark the same exact way. I get dressed the same way, put my shoes on in the same order. I wear my lucky fishing hat and polarized glasses. I even drive my car down the same exact streets to get there. I do this for three months every morning till I get burned out. I do it right, I'm in the zone, I block out everything around me and fish. I'm so quiet the deer don't know I'm there. Quote
matuka Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 No bananas on my boat unless accompanied by a monkey. Might that be the ever annoying bait monkey? 1 Quote
matuka Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 I buy a new red fishing cap every year. Gotta wear my bolo tie on tournament day. I ALWAYS say to my tournament partner upon arriving at our first spot, "skinny a-- adolescents need not apply, fat g---- only". Years ago someone (never found out who) snuck a banana in my boat. We won the tournament, so a banana comes with me. But I'm not superstitious. Quote
bassindon Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Suggestion: Huddleston Hat. It has a Horse Shoe with a 4 Leaf Clover in the middle of it, on the back of the hat : ) Quote
papajoe222 Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 I keep my dog's collar fastened around the steering wheel base of my boat. She was a constant companion whenever I'd go out and would drive us nuts until she was in the truck when she knew where I was going. If I forget to rub that collar, or at the very least acknowledge its presence, I'll have an extremely poor outing. 1 Quote
RanndomUndead Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Just wondering if there is something you ALWAYS bring, or something you do before a trip to help the bite. Getting ticked off at a heavy snag on the first cast and drop kicking my drink sky high......then doing the swim of shame. Quote
Super User *Hootie Posted March 15, 2015 Super User Posted March 15, 2015 Let's see, Step on a carp, break your mo....no, that's not it. Hootie Quote
ColdSVT Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 I dont however there is one thing that will be on my boat this year for each and every outting...An American Flag Quote
wytstang Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Besides my gear the only other 2 items I bring with me is an extra large cup of coffee and a nice cigar to go with it. Either then that it's just go time. edit: almost forgot my 9mm S&W, the twins have my back. Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted March 16, 2015 Super User Posted March 16, 2015 I hate to admit it, but I have a "lucky" pair of sneakers that I always wear. They look disgusting. Never mind how they look. How do they smell? 1 Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted March 16, 2015 Super User Posted March 16, 2015 I have only one superstition. It's that the only way to catch fish is to go fishing. Quote
RanndomUndead Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Its the shirt. Never take it off. Never wash it. If you wash it all of the luck will wash out. I think you could actually apply a logical solution to "lucky shirts" that are never washed....Being that they probably end up smelling like fish, just the act of putting it on could help mask the scent from your hands into smelling more like fish...or mildew. But still, seems reasonable. Guess the moral of the story is to not get all fancied before hitting the water...lol Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted March 16, 2015 Super User Posted March 16, 2015 Yes ~ I believe that it's very Good Luck to go fishing with anglers who really know what they're doing. A-Jay 1 Quote
oldschoolbasser Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 I don't fish during lightning storms! Quote
zeth Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 Yeah I eat bananas before, during and after every fishing trip, especially tournaments. I always catch fish. Stupid myth. For real though no charms etc. No need. Quote
BooyahMan Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 Yep. Bring my girlfriend, she catches fish. ...wait. That would make ME a good luck charm. 1 Quote
bassin' 4 life Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 My superstition would be that spinner baits don't like me. I bought two, one broke then I got the pieces then promptly lost them. The other one, somehow, fell in the water? Then I bought an expensive one, it just fell off my line while I was using it. Quote
Crutch Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 Even if I catch no fish being out on the water is good enough for me. Quote
AQUA VELVA Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Luck is for people who don't pay attention or have a plan. Quote
Big C Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Luck is for people who don't pay attention or have a plan. Then I need a lot of luck. Quote
SFL BassHunter Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 I always keep a baseball bat in the car, a pocket knife in my pocket and since I bank fish in the glades I gather a few rocks in my pocket to make sure the gators don't get to close. Haven't had to use any of them yet. but its always nice to have just in case. I also take water and beef jerky with me on full day fishing events. But no superstitions. Skill and awareness trump luck in my opinion. A perfect example: I used to go saltwater fishing with my parents every weekend. Every weekend my dad would stand in the same spot and my mom would stand in the same spot. My Mom caught double the amount of fish and usually keepers, where as my dad would catch smaller fish. I tended to roam around, I wasn't as patient back then. When my mom would take a break I would go to her spot and would catch fish. For the longest time we thought my mom was just lucky. After further inspection I know realize that she was in a better spot. Where she cast held more fish and she always used lighter tackle than my dad. My dad would put the biggest sinker he could find and the thickest line to prevent the line from braking as often. So I find luck to have very little role in fishing. Quote
