I just got a 7' medium spinning avid x. The blank seems identical to my regular avid 7' medium. Guides and handle are different. I like it so far.

It's the same blank, different grips, and microguides. Great rods for the money, made in the USA, and a solid warranty. St. Croix won't ever let you down.

Oddly, being a st croix fan, I was looking at one of these. It didn't have a full lifetime warranty like the avids I own. I think it was 15 years. I Beleive, however, that it is the same blank but with a split grip and micro guides. Those were the only differences I could spot.

I think the warranty on the x is very short like a year. I like the standard avid casting so I will be sticking with those. Wish they had a standard handle micros

5 years on Mexican made Rods, and as ty said 15 on the "X" rods... Plenty of Time!

Essentially lifetime. If your rod breaks after 15 years, that's probably on you.

The Avid X is built on the same blank as the Avid, but it has a split grip as well as an advanced micro guide system. I haven't fished one yet but I will this spring when the water softens up around me.

I'd buy it if it only had a 1 year warranty. If it doesn't blow up in the first outing or 2, then there's not a defect in material or workmanship.

Rods break. Avids break. And it's mostly user error. Though, I feel like an avid, well cared for should last for as long as you care for it.

I'd buy this rod in a heartbeat but they don't come in 2-pieces for the 6'6". There is a 2-piece for the 7' rod but it's too long for what I need it for. C'mon St Croix! Please come through!

Yep I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority too that's why St Croix doesn't make them in that configuration lol. I value portability of a 2 piece over the perceived sensitivity of a 1 piece because I travel 52 times a year by plane for business. I also fish remote locations often require trekking a few miles through dense woods/bushes to reach water. I just can't bring along a 1 piece rod with me.
