I have a couple hollow body frogs I am looking forward to throwing this season, right now I have two bait cast combos they are

Powell Diesel 723

7'2" MH Ex-Fast

Lews LFS 6.8:1

Diawa Cielo 3DX

7'1" MH Fast

Lews LFS 6.8:1

I like to use 40-50 lb braid on both for almost everything.

I don't typically fish any really bad vegetation, usually just some lily pads

Would either be decent to throw a hollow body on occasionally?

It'll get you by since your not in real nasty stuff. Once you get on a good frog bite in the area your fishing, you'll know quickly if your under gunned.

I would probably fish the Diesel combo.  Little longer rod, and the XF action should help you move those fish out of the pads.

Alright, I just don't fish them enough to justify ~$100 on a frog rod, also don't want to have to carry another rod around with me when I go fishing!  Three or four is enough for me!

Anything heavier you're going to want something a bit more in a heavy action or heavier MH action.  I prefer something 7'3" or a bit longer and a little faster retrieve to move the fish perferably over 7:1 ratio.

The ex fast shouldn't be too much a problem in the med/by rated rod. If the powell is sturdier, go with that. They'd both prol make for good ribbit type frog rods

Both will work fine.

I will have to give it a try!
I am getting anxious to get out on the water!
Too bad it's frozen now!

As a side note, what knot do you guys use to tie on the frogs? Loop or double palomar?

Both should work. I would probably use the one with more backbone.  I use a MH for frogs all the time.  I dont fish anything that makes me feel like I need to get a heavy.  But you will figure out if you need that after you use the rods.

Either would work. My go to setup has a 7'2" mh/ef rod. Just got a Perfect Pitch and love it for frogs/toads in heavy cover.

x2

X3 --- the diesel would probably be my choice between the two though. You really don't need to go out and invest in another rod just yet. What you have will be fine for 95% of frog situations. What you might possibly be missing out on doesn't justify buying a new rod unless you REALLY want to commit to that technique

Both would be fine but the diesel would be my choice.

FWIW I use a 7'3" MH-F pinnacle perfect with 40lb braid for my frogging. I don't fish anything super thick either.

Pretty good but not ideal. I use a heavy rod and a reel that has a higher gear ratio. But you can get away with that

Either will work for what you're looking to do with them. Try them both out and see which you prefer. Also, I tie a Palomar knot with my braid as I do with everything.

Been wondering about this myself, as my rod is MH/f, so thanks for the help.

Depends on the frog but you should fine with a MH as long as it's got some good backbone to it.
