My never ending search for the perfect line has led me to this candidate. I should mention that I'm looking for a best of both words line for fishing jerkbaits, topwater, small spinnerbaits, squarebills, etc. I've been throwing Yo-Zuri hybrid 10# but am not satisfied with the amount of memory it has. Even after soaking it in line conditioner it's only usable for so long before you feel like you're throwing a slinky. I digress...

Has anybody used Sunline's Defier Armilo? From what I hear it should be neutrally buoyant or float, but with less stretch and visibility than mono. Based on my experience with Sunline's other products I'm expecting it to be very manageable with little memory.

I'm spooling some up right now for the first time. WRB recommended it. The dia for stated pound test runs small. 22lb is 0.015 dia. while the 20lb I was using was 0.017 dia. I wont get to use it until later this week but will let you know. I sure it will prove to be good stuff based upon WRB experience.

Thanks Dwight, have fun! Waters around here are pretty hard at the moment, so I'll be anxious to hear about your experience with it.

I have a spool of 19lb sitting the garage right now. Probably going to spool it up and fish with it for the first time this Friday at Wolf.

Nice! Looking forward to that report even more than usual  :eyebrows:

A buddy of mine drew some good big bites on an S-Waver out there recently. Not that I expect you to have any problems with that  :laugh5:

I just spooled up some 22lb. Tried it at a local pond and I can tell you I am very pleased with it. Minimal stretch, cast like a dream with no coiling and worked a jerk bait to perfection. I even caught a dink. I'll be buying more for my mono needs. The end of the spool is marked red  for about a foot just before the you get to the bottom of the spool.

Good to hear, thanks for following up! Sounds like my only complaint will be tiny 165 yd spools   :Idontknow:

If you use cheap mono for backing, you can get two fills out of a spool easily. Not likely you're going to cast a jerkbait 80 yards any time soon.

No but it would be nice to spool a few reels.

I'm giving the line 2 big, bass chewed thumbs up  if Friday was any indication of what to expect. It cast awesome, low stretch, very sensitive, just like described basically.

The outlet was a waste land when we were out there, everyone that fished said the same thing, so no swimbait fish for me. That Deps Slide Swimmer sure looks purdy in the water though  :eyebrows:

I was flipping trees with the 19lb and made up my mind to let it go just to see what it would stand up to. After dragging it through rocks, limbs, over logs, and landing 15-20 bass in the 2-3 range, 6 of which involved fish swimming behind trees and having to be pulled back around the tree with the line rubbing under pressure, the line finally broke on a hookset. It seemed to be a bit finicky with the knot. I tied both a Palmar and a SDJ and on a couple occasions it broke when I tried to give it a good pull after being cinched down. It seemed to like the SDJ better of the two. Once the knot was tied though, it was extremely strong. It's also very thin for the pound test I bought, like Dwight said.

Regular Defier ties better knots imo. Not as slick. Armilo is great, but I still prefer the green original.

You think 13# would be too heavy for cold water jerkbaits?

Based on what I have read, this line sounds like it will break closer to advertised than most other lines.  The reason a 10# line breaks at #19 can usually be determined by comparing its diameter to lines breaking closer to their rating.  As far as I am concerned, I buy 8# line for its smaller diameter and figure on it breaking around 8#s.  If I wanted a 20# line, I would have bought a 20# line.  :teeth:

Yeah, Japanese manufacturers label their line that breaks at 10# as 10# line. American manufacturers label their 14# line as 10#, then claim to have "the strongest line in its class." It makes for a nice slogan, and uninformed people keep buying it and talking about how that line is so much stronger. Diameter is the only true way to compare lines.

I think I'll be going with the original Shooter Defier in 13#. Slightly smaller diameter than the 10# Yo-Zuri Hybrid I'm throwing right now (.300 < .308mm), but based on what I'm hearing their breaking strengths should be close.

Talk about paralysis by analysis. :laugh5:

I used the 22lb on a Calais DC for a couple of days last week. I was using topwater baits, lipless cranks & jerk baits. No problems with knots or breakage. Very smooth casting line. I really am impressed with the cast ability and controlled stretch without being too stretchy.
