Super User HoosierHawgs Posted January 27, 2015 Super User Posted January 27, 2015 I find the FLW broadcast to be horrible. I don't even DVR them anymore and try to watch them. The Bassmaster broadcasts are a little better but I still find myself fast forwarding through most of the broadcast unless I'm really board. But MLF - that show is becoming one of my favorites. I don't care for that new qualifying show, but the two hour MLF program, I put right up there with Hook & Look, Lunkerville, Salt Water Experience and Bill Dance as my favorite shows. I will watch all two hours of MLF too without fast forwarding thought it. What I like best about it - it shows the pros both being successful and struggling and catching lots of small bass like I do! I actually like FLW better than BASS stuff. FLW coverage is better IMO. I also like their shows 'Circuit Breaker' and 'Beyond the Basics' Quote
thewagen Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 It's a television product, not a tournament. I like it, and it's cool to see how the pros react. Better than many of the cookie cutter fishing shows out there it's no Lunkerville, though. I just wish at the end of each TV episode it would say what each top Angler was fishing with, lure-wise. Otherwise, I love to see the stress levels as the scorekeeper keeps reading out the live updates. Much better for the health of the fish since they let them go right away.. I now enjoy this over the weigh-in tournaments, but I do understand why the weigh-in formats are so necessary..Fans=$$ spent waiting for the anglers to come in. How much money does the MLF winner get as opposed to the Bass Master Classic? Plus the Classic is over 3 days on a known body of water, and MLF takes weeks on multiple unknown locations...still cool to see though. 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 27, 2015 Super User Posted January 27, 2015 Is that a question? MLF participants neither pay an entry not collect a purse for winning. Quote
Super User HoosierHawgs Posted January 27, 2015 Super User Posted January 27, 2015 Honestly, I think pots/payouts would change the way they do MLF a little bit... I don't know if we'd still like it necessarily... Quote
HookdUP Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 I like the show a lot .. I agree Id prefer the rules but with the same five bass limit ... However I do appreciate the fact that a bunch of mid sized fish can win you a tournament ... I fished a lot of tournaments and left with less money for the same reason ... I've been watching from the beginning extended cast and im up to the Florida lake in the 3rd event ... I do learn from them at least and they explain more .. Some of it comes because the cameras are always on that little things come out and I like that as well ... To me its like what ufc is to boxing somewhat ... Quote
hoosierbass07 Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Anybody watch the show Sunday? Wow, I loved the whole group of anglers. Seeing a mix of spinning reels and baitcasters was great too. The scenery was very pretty. All in all a great show. And to see Shaw and KVD struggle was cool too. I don't really care for those "select" shows but the main MLF programs are pretty darn good. I think they might be the best programming on the Outdoor Channel. The show is just plain fun. Plus, you really get to know the anglers a little bit. And when Aaron Martens was gloating a little bit when KVD was struggling - classic. One thing I don't like that I saw in one or two of the "select" shows - young guys. I'm not a fan of those twenty-something hot shots. I see enough of them in town driving around in their big 4X4 trucks thinking they are king of the hillbilly world. I don't want to see that on MLF. The show on Sunday had grown men acting like grown men (OK, maybe not Iaconelli, but he's still cool). That's what I want to see - adult grown professional men competing, doing good and struggling just like me. That two hour program was superior to any B.A.S.S. or FLW show. MLF is up their with Saltwater Experience, Hook & Look, and Lunkerville as the best fishing programs on TV. Quote
lmoore Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Without those "twenty-something hot shots" this sport has no future. I'd hate to see it die because we wouldn't let young anglers in for fear of hurting the old guys pride. Of the guys in there 20s on the MLF select show, all have proven they belong. Ott Defoe, Jacob Wheeler, Palaniuk, and Shryock are the only 20s anglers in the Select unless I missed someone. Quote
hoosierbass07 Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Did anybody notice the GoPro on KVD's chest he had on? Does MLF put that footage online in their extended cast? I would pay money to see that footage uncut. Quote
redux Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 I was just thinking that I'd like to see a wider selection of the 20-something anglers on MLF. Especially when someone can't show up like Ike during the Denton, TX series they should have a list of non-regular anglers who are willing to show up on short notice. It's an 11.5 hour drive from Guntersville to Denton. There has to be someone who could make that length of a drive with just a few days notice. Anyway, I enjoy the MLF product and watch the DVDs regularly because I find more information the more I watch them. Quote
MarkNJBass Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 I do enjoy the show......what I like best about the show is where they do them. Chautauqua Lake in NY....the Belgrade lakes in Maine....places on the Northeast I'd love to fish. Just another way for Boyd Duckett to make more $$$$$$......like he needs it......I was thinking of getting some guys together and having a MLF tournament during the closed season in NJ.....only costs $5 a guy to use their technology.....I think it would be cool.... Lucky Craft Man Posted February 16, 2015 Author Posted February 16, 2015 Here's a quote from Scott Suggs, "To be able to win this tournament with these caliber of guys..." You guys may need to talk with Scott and let him know it's not a tournement. Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted February 17, 2015 Super User Posted February 17, 2015 What? tournament tour·na·ment - n. 1. A series of contests in which a number of contestants compete and the one that prevails through the final round or that finishes with the best record is declared the winner 2. A sports competition or series of contests that involves many players or teams and that usually continues for at least several days 3. A series of games or contests that make up a single unit of competition (as on a professional golf tour), the championship play-offs of a league or conference, or an invitational event Sounds exactly like what I've been watching... -T9 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 17, 2015 Super User Posted February 17, 2015 That makes this a legit tournament, then. Right?lol... Quote
CDMeyer Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 No the weigh ins are pretty cool to witness. But the MLF format is really cool Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted February 19, 2015 Super User Posted February 19, 2015 I love the MLF format. If i could figure out a way to implement it into my team opens that I run I would. Quote
gvillebassman Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 I think it would be cool in the opening round to have two different ways to qualify. Maybe three guys with the most weight, and then one spot for the guy with the heaviest 5. Would be interesting to see who went for bigger fish and who went for numbers. Quote
redux Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 http://scoretrackerlive.com/ I love the MLF format. If i could figure out a way to implement it into my team opens that I run I would. Quote
BassmanDan Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 I Iove watching it! It's funny though listening to them call a fish a giant that won't go 3 pounds. That's hilarious...and it's always followed by "well it isn't as big as I thought but I'll take it"....like you're going to not?? Quote
Bamacapsfan Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 I love this the MLF format. Competitors are provided live updates on the standings really pushes them. I really liked the "Lessons" episode this season. By far my favorite fishing show. Quote
hoosierbass07 Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 Too bad there isn't another MLF tournmanet on right now. I know the Bassmaster Classic is going on but that will not be on TV for a few weeks. We have four or five weeks left of winter. A perfect time to show another MLF tournament. Quote
