MD has a new state record and potential world record Tautog, interesting but the best part of the article (for me at least) a new state record chain pickerel was pulled from one of the ponds by my house, article has it at  8lbs beating out the 1976 record of 7lbs 6oz. Just goes to show that record fish could easily be in one of your home waters you fish. I could only imagine the fight that thing put up.

I guess they do? I know Ive caught plenty of citation size pickerel (24"+) and maybe 4lbs outta that pond but my biggest, 6lb 4oz came from the Pocomoke river, just 4oz shy of the state record for the Chesapeake. I never thought the next state record would come from a pond again, I do know there are some big bass in there though, Ive seen verified 9+lbs come from it. Like I said ya just never know whats under the water waiting to take your bait.

Both records are awesome. The old pickerel record stood for 39 years.

Just curious ,is that water public.

Also to note that the LMB record was broken recently from a private pond.

Not to sound sinister, but I don`t agree with  records being allowed from private waters.

I agree I dont like the LMB record but it is what it is. But the water the pickerel was pulled from is public and I fish it quite often. If you know where the old record came from coincidentally thats where the new one is from also...

I have a friend who was SURE he saw the MD state record LMB in a pond he fished. But we all know how that goes  :eyebrows: . Main issue is that he wanted to catch it on a fly rod.
