Super User burleytog Posted April 22, 2007 Super User Posted April 22, 2007 I placed an order on 4/11 with BPS. Did it online as I could not get through on the phone due to 'staffing problems'. Got an email about an hour after I placed my order telling me that a couple of items that were listed as being in stock were instead on backorder (strike 1). Checked my BPS account on 4/16, showed the order as being shipped. Waited and waited this week, no order. Starting to panic as I need most of the stuff for my Varner trip next weekend. Just got an email from BPS saying that my order shipped TODAY!!!! > (strike 2) It takes 7-8 business days to throw a few bags of worms and chunks in a box, slap a shipping label on it, and throw it in a truck? I do believe I've placed my last order with BPS. It just isn't worth it. Not when I can place an order with Tackle Warehouse on Monday morning and have it by Friday (and I live all the way across the country). Cabelas usually has my orders to me within a week. Throw in their (rapidly becoming) terrible website (strike 3) and it all adds up to a very dissatified customer. I've got a BPS about 2 hours away, I guess I'll just have to go there when I need something that Cabelas or TW doesn't have. Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted April 22, 2007 Super User Posted April 22, 2007 I'm with you burley, I WILL NOT spend my money there. Quote
ben watson Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 i third that burley, bps has been horrible, stinks though i really like them too its just not worth the aggrevation, ebay is even faster lol Quote
Super User burleytog Posted April 22, 2007 Author Super User Posted April 22, 2007 The sad thing is that it hasn't always been this way. I've been ordering from BPS since 1989. Worked all winter doing odd jobs, saved up enough money and ordered a tent and frame backpack. Since then I've spent God only knows how much money with them. Only in the last 6 months has the service gotten this bad. Bad enough that they charged me $12 for shipping via USPS Parcel Post. I'll be lucky to have it by Friday. I'm just in a very very ticked off mood. Quote
Cephkiller Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 I used to save up my yard mowing money and spend it there. I have been shopping with them for over 20 years and I, too have only recently noticed a dowturn in service. I hope they get their act together soon. Maybe they have gotten too big for their britches? Is Johnny Morris still running the show or has he sold out and/or turned it over to someone else? Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted April 22, 2007 Super User Posted April 22, 2007 I agree with you guys. As of late their service has been slow, they've had web page issues, and often they don't have items in stock. I think it's HILARIOUS that I get stuff faster from Japan than from BPS! Quote
Fish Man Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 well this just sucks...i recently got a BPS gift card and was about to use it in the next few days and now this. i guess i will just have to give it a try an ....well if it doesnt go well...then and and i almost forgot Quote
lovecranking Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 I'll agree with others on slow, poor service. For instance, if you place an order on a Monday and have standard UPS shipping, you can go online on the following Friday and see that the order is still in the processing stage. And I'm surprised at the small selection of lures & colors for any of the big brand names that they sell in the catalog. I like Lucky Craft lures and BPS's Lucky Craft line has very limited selection of lures & colors in their catalog. I can go online to Northern Bass and they carry all of the Lucky Craft lures & colors. If a small store (compared to BPS) can carry the entire Lucky Craft inventory, I don't understand why BPS has such a small selection and even smaller color options for Lucky Craft in their catalog. When you look in the BPS catalog, BPS seems more interested in showing & selling their boats and telling you about all of their stores than really making sure that they are the best at selling a huge selection of lures by the top manufactureers that people are looking for. I'll give you an example of BPS limitations. I like the Rick Clunn 2.5's and 3.5's. BPS advertised both of the Rick Clunn lures on sale starting in their Spring Classic. Well I wanted to get some. I went to their store during the Spring Classic, not in stock...they don't know when they will be getting them in. So I called the BPS catalog while I was still in their store because the catalog also had these same lures on sale. The catalog stated they had none in stock & thought it would be at least a month or maybe more before they would be in stock. Plus the catalog said they wouldn't give me a rain check or honor the sale price once they were in stock. Well the BPS floor manager seemed surprised after he got on the phone with the catalog operator. The floor manager then told me he would give me a raincheck, keep an eye on when the lures did come in and would ship them to me at no charge. I thought that was really nice since I live 60 miles from the store. By the way, it's been a month and a half and guess what? BPS has no idea when the RC's will be in. Now if you were spending the money on advertising for the BPS Spring Classic, wouldn't you think you would make sure that those items were actually available both at the store and in their catalog? Guest the_muddy_man Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 UUHHH??????? My girlfriend ordered a rod for me last Sun and i got it Thurs I am not feelin this 8-) Quote
Guest Bountiful_Waters Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 I wish BPS would go public. Responsibility to shareholders and customers might serve a great benefit. Quote
flyphisher # Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 Ordered some stuff on 9th and got it on the 19th. Then open the box to read that half the stuff i ordered was on backorder. Never got an email or anything. PLus they sent the box, that had to be crammed into the mailbox by Post office employee. Also got stuff in the mail around Xmas about everything they had on sale at the store 50 miles from here. Get to the store and they have nothing on sale. Tried online and called the catalog, they played dumb just like the store. So i am only buying from there when I absolutely have to. Quote
BucketmouthAngler13 Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 UUHHH??????? My girlfriend ordered a rod for me last Sun and i got it Thurs I am not feelin this 8-) Same thing here. I put in a order on last friday and it came on wendsday. Thats like what, 4 bussines days? Yeah their site is having some tec problems and they are always late marking items out-of-stock, but as far as shipping goes they have always been good for me. And I don't mind if my 1000yrds of Hybrid is backordered as long as I get it for 7 bucks! Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted April 22, 2007 Super User Posted April 22, 2007 They are probably shipping from the BPS that is down the street from where you live Muddy. ;D Quote
Supermat Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 I agree with you guys. As of late their service has been slow, they've had web page issues, and often they don't have items in stock. I think it's HILARIOUS that I get stuff faster from Japan than from BPS! I'm with you Redline! I've had BPS take up to a month to get me a TINY order that was all in stock. Conversely, I had a package get to me from Japan in TWO DAYS!!! I still don't know how it got here so quick! Quote

Pa Angler Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 Keep in mind that your not the only one logged on to buy the same item as other buyes are looking to buy as well by the time you pull the trigger the item may be out. *** updates in real time but you have to back out of the screen to get the update I don't think BPS does that I have been bit from time to time that an in stock item was put on Backorder but then agian I can't verify how many others were buying the same item but for the most part I'm happy with BPS. fishingfourfun Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 I have not had any problems. I ordered a toho-livewell on Monday and received it on a Friday. Quote
MattStrykul Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 I agree on the shipping. I ordered an aerator for a livewell that I NEEDED for a weekend tourney and it came literally just in time and that was 2 day shipping and I ordered it monday! It came friday afternoon. didnt think itd make it, and i felt ripped off with the 2 day shipping, but it did come intime. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted April 23, 2007 Author Super User Posted April 23, 2007 I have no problem paying for quicker shipping when needed. But one would think that a 2.5 week lead time would be sufficient for a small order. It certainly has been with previous orders from BPS. Orders from Cabelas (standard shipping) usually take about 5 days to get here. Tackle Warehouse is about the same and they are in California. BPS seems to have purposely slowed the shipment of ground orders. And while I'm on the subject of shipping, why is that FedEx 2 day air from Tackle Warehouse is only around $13 (on a $150 order including a 7'11 rod) while standard ground from BPS on a $100 order (just baits) is $12? Over the last year BPS shipping has gotten slower and slower for me while Cabelas has actually gotten a little quicker. At least Cabelas gets your order out in a timely fashion. As far as I'm concerned, there is absolutely no reason for BPS to delay the shipment of a small order for 8 business days. If they anticipated a delay, they should certainly inform the customer that there will be a shipping delay before they finalize the order. I'm going to call them tomorrow and give them a piece of my mind. Quote
FatBoy Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 I haven't had any problems with BPS. I got a trolling motor and some miscellaneous stuff last month and it arrived within 5 bus days. Then a smaller order last week of just some spot removers and some other small things got here is 4 days. Guess I've just been lucky. Quote

Jerkbate Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 I ordered a jacket from BPS a couple of months ago. I ordered the size that I normally wear, but it was too small. I returned it at my expense & requested the next size up. I received the order about 2 and a half weeks later, & it was the same jacket that I had returned. There was a distinct mark on the tag. So, I know it was the same one. I called and was told I would have to pay return shipping again ($8.00), but it would be credited to my debit card when they received the jacket. I still have the jacket over a month later. I plan to go to the local BPS the end of the month, & I'll return the jacket then. I just refuse to pay shipping again on their mistake. Quote
Guest avid Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 I don't have problems with the bps service. I never order anything that has the asterisk warning that the item is low stock. I always check the "do not backorder out of stock merchandise" on the web order form. It is rare that they don't have my stuff in stock. They are slow, that's for sure, but there is nothing new about that. My big complaint with them is that don't carry much that is out of the ordinary. None of the big name Cali swimbaits, none of the japanese cool stuff except lucky craft. but,,,,,,,,,,, I do like the reward points. I usually buy myself a type of bait or color that I would like to try but probably wouldn't pay for. Quote
