Hi Guys

I need some advise on Punching Skirts, I only recently started the Punching Technique(and loving it I might add!!! :eyebrows: ) Is there a specific skirt for punching or can I just use conventional skirts? What color, length etc?

Thanks

As with jigs or spinner baits you can use any skirt you wan t in any color you want.

Most of the skirts "made for punching" have a band that keeps them from getting hung up.  They're just about all the same.  Just go with the color you like best.

I use the black plastic boss punch hubs and the Z-man "EZ skirts" good, cheap and reliable.

Siebert has a good selection of punch jigs and can wire the skirt as well so you don't have to worry about it slipping down.  As for price he is lower then most punch jigs I've looked at. Other then his, I use Picasso's punch jigs which hold up great as well.

  • I am a tackle freak and I will also throw my hat in the ring for Siebert. Prices are as good as anyone or better, all custom and therefore made to your style and area, plus the quality is really impressive and I know I sound like a fan of a sponser but the Wire Ties may be simple for some of you guys, colors with skirts, but I like it done right and also like nice paint and color which he supplies....I love the wide gap swim jigs, great hook up percent, and black and blue punch skirt, green pumpkin craw or trailer. Love that combo as much as I love a watermelon green jig with an orange trailer...

Mike makes some quality stuff.

If you like doing things yourself, just put some BOSS punch hubs and put a skirt on them. i like the hubs a lot.

I don't punch much, so I went the cheap route an picked up some of the rubber skirt cone collars from Lure parts online.   They're only thirteen cents apiece and I can fit a skirt on it with needle nose pliers.  Works for me.

whenever I'm punching i look at it this way:

if the water is stained i use a black/blue skirt

if its clear ill use a bluegill or green pumpkin skirt

as for the brand i always use the zman skirts that are for chatterbaits because on TW they are like $2.89 for 3 and they have all the colors i use

  hope this helps, jim

I use different brands of punch weights, but I like using the BOSS hub because it allows you to use regular bullet weights pegged against it.

That's brilliant. They have a special collar too unlike most banded skirts which would make it easy to thread on line and not worry about losing strands!

It;s the Gene Larew 6" HooDaddy.  They have been making it for years and it has landed me countless Hawgs.

Wish we could get them here, I have a thing for creature baits, as I had my most success on them and caught my PB on them!!
