Super User J Francho Posted May 28, 2015 Super User Posted May 28, 2015 I can't wait to get my new boat. This Coosa is getting on my nerves each trip out. It does float, so they got that design target. 1 Quote

It does float, so they got that design target. And what boat is that? or do i have to read this whole thread to find it lol I have a commander but the Wildy ATAK is really intriguing me. I may try and sell my commander and get a river boat and get the ATAK for all my flatwater needs. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted May 28, 2015 Super User Posted May 28, 2015 Looking at a C140 and an ATAK. According to early reports from staffers that actually got boats, the ATAK is pretty good, though the Commander is one of the best lake boats out there. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted May 28, 2015 Super User Posted May 28, 2015 Yeah but i make two weeklong trips a year to the shore where having scuppers would be nice instead of renting a crappy kayak that isn't really made for fishing. I love my commander though and i only have the 12' version but it does a great job. I wouldn't mind getting a little more speed too since there are a few lakes i fish that require a decent, 3+ mile paddle one way, to get tot he areas i like to fish. And above all that, I haven't bought a new kayak in about 2 or 3 years now so i am itching for a new one lol Quote
Super User J Francho Posted May 28, 2015 Super User Posted May 28, 2015 Mmmmm, new boats! It's been like a decade for me. 1 Quote
Turtle135 Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 I have seen the ATAK in person. The standing platform area in front of the seat looks awesome. The two anglers paddling the ATAK feel that the lower profile of the ATAK sheds the wind really well. It presents a lot less surface to the wind than the Commander or even my Ride 115. Quote
boostr Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 Ordered a Yak-Gear Deluxe Anchor Trolley, and a Yak-Gear 3lb folding anchor kit. Should be getting it tomorrow. Will be a great weekend project... HELLO YAK APE! Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted May 28, 2015 Super User Posted May 28, 2015 My one concern is having a 14" boat because I have only used 12' boats or smaller for the most part other than paddling my dads old tarpon 140 which was a rocket basically compared to what i was used to. One more question on the ATAK if anyone knows, is that electronics pod open to the water below so you could use it for a side imaging setup if you wanted to? Quote
Super User J Francho Posted May 28, 2015 Super User Posted May 28, 2015 I have that question posed to them already. I let you know when I hear back. 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted May 28, 2015 Super User Posted May 28, 2015 Turtle, I've heard some mixed chatter, thou I think some are misinterpreting the effects of current from steady wind, not the annoying effects of those breezy gusts that send a high draft boat spinning, lol. The ATAK should be perfect for that. Got to get back to work, I'm on Conesus right now. Quote

Super User J Francho Posted May 28, 2015 Super User Posted May 28, 2015 No. I don't put trolling motors on my kayaks. Quote
kjfishman Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 Mmmmm, new boats! It's been like a decade for me. 15 years for me. I don't think I could wear out the Loon 138 if I wanted so will need a good excuse to convince the wife a new one is needed. Quote
microotter Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 Hey guys! I am a kayak bass fishermen and my current kayak is a Jackson Cruise 12. I like a simple open layout. I have ram tube 2008's behind the seat and thats it so far. My previous kayak was a Native Ultimate 12. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted May 29, 2015 Super User Posted May 29, 2015 I really like the cruise and for the money, i think it is one of the best boas out there. It is also a clean canvas so you can rig it however you want. Quote
microotter Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 I am really happy with it so far. It is very versatile and is great on lakes and rivers. I picked it bc it is light enough to easily car top. The Ultimate was easier to car top but didn't do well in rapids or choppy water. Quote
sully99 Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 15 years for me. I don't think I could wear out the Loon 138 if I wanted so will need a good excuse to convince the wife a new one is needed. The OT Loon 138 was my first fishing kayak (Purchased in 1998). I sold it to buy a Ascend FS12T when they first came out, I had serious buyers remorse. I sold that and bought my current Ultimate 12 which I love but the Loon was a great yak. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted June 2, 2015 Super User Posted June 2, 2015 Looks like a long build time for the ATAK, at least for me. I'm thinking a pair of Commanders in each length might be the ticket. Fly likes his 120, and I fish creeks quite a bit, and some of Wildy Teammates are saying the C140 is prett fast, and fishes big water well, so that might be the plan! Quote

They do have the color I want in stock according to their website so I just might be picking up a new kayak this weekend I will be selling my commander 120 tonight so i will have some cash burning a hole in my pocket.... 1 Quote
hoosierbass07 Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 I'm really interested in the ATAK but I think the weight is pushing near 80 pounds. My Ride 115 is 78 and it's a heavy 78. I'm not sure I want to go heavier. Eventually if you go too heavy the fact that you have to deal with a heavy kayak will take away some of the fun of actually using it. Anyway, my next kayak will probably be an ATAK, Commander 120 or Tarpon 120 or 140. Maybe even a Pungo. That Commander 120 looks nice though being at 64 pounds. What I really want is something I can do long distance in for bigger lakes. 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted June 2, 2015 Super User Posted June 2, 2015 Tarpon 140 or a Thresher 140/155, unless you want to stand. I love 12' boats, but if you need speed, you'll have to go longer. With length comes weight. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted June 3, 2015 Super User Posted June 3, 2015 Well for the first time in at least 5 years I am kayakless....feels weird to look out back and not see my commander on the storage rack....i am guessing I will be purchasing this weekend though and breaking it in the same day..... And as far as the weight is concerned, I do think the ATAK is heavy but my old Coosa was a pig to carry even though it isn't listed as being that heavy the first year of the boat i had carried a lot heavier due to the bad balance points where the handles were. Anyways, once i pick up a boat i will be sure to post up some pics Quote
massrob Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Hey guys I've got a question. My mother wants to get a kayak and I don't wanna spend a grand but around 500 maybe less. It's doesn't need to be a fishing yak. She just wants to go on to the water with me. Thanks guys. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Quote
