Dogmatic Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 I can stand up fine it's once I'm standing it just feels like I'm gonna fall. I think it's getting easier the more I do it. I've only been on it 15 or so times. I'm just wondering if it just takes time to get it down. I'd like to stand up and fish. I think I'll figure it out anyway. Just wondering if it's normal? With a dedidicated fishing platform(like your yak), you'll get use to it, but there is always the option to add "outriggers", lots of DIY videos on YouTube. Quote

Super User J Francho Posted May 20, 2015 Super User Posted May 20, 2015 The objection I have with that is the same as any other price if unnecessary cordage: it's a hazard. Quote
Jim Mac Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 He doesn't need that anyway. He says he can stand up fine. Massrob, Does Wilderness Systems make a casting bar like Nucanoe and some others sell? That's what you need. Quote
massrob Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Im not sure I've looked and haven't found anything like that. I would like to get one of those. I've seen them that have a slot where you can put your paddle. Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted May 21, 2015 Super User Posted May 21, 2015 You just have to get over the feeling of being uneasy. I have a 115x and I can stand up to fish just fine. I have ok balance but nothing great. You can put all your weight to one side and it won't flip. It is definitely a weird feeling but you can't worry about getting wet. Waters warm right now anyways. Put yourself in about 3ft of water and go for it. You'll get used to it. Quote
massrob Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 I have seen videos of guys trying to tip it over and they wouldn't tip even from the back of it. I just need to get over the weird feeling and not worry about it. Thanks guys I appreciate it. I finally have a whole weekend off and I plan on being in the kayak the whole time. I can't wait to go fishing. Quote

Yes, they make a casting bar. Quote
Turtle135 Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Nice set up! How'd you set up your crate? Nothing too special about my crate. Purchased two standard sized milk crates at The Container Store then cut the bottom 3 inches off the second crate to use as a lid. Zip ties are the hinges and I have a small bungee with a Nite Ize S-Biner to keep the lid closed. I zip tied a 3 rod holder on one side and a 2 rod holder on another. That camo crate covering finally started to fall apart from too much sun and wet so I no longer use that. The only problem I have with my crate setup is that I seem to want to carry more tackle than I can fit inside! 1 Quote

Turtle135 Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Nice! Where did you get the camp cover and the 2/3 rod holders? The cover was from a company who no longer does business in the United States. I think they were called "CratePak". Got the rod holders at Bass Pro Shops, they look like this: 1 Quote

boostr Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 Just got this today, and I'm pumped The FeelFree Lure 11.5 Took it out for a demo on a windy and rough choppy day (probaply the best way to demo a yak). For a first time yakker like me it paddled pretty well in these less than ideal conditions. I even stood up in it in the wind and chop, and let me tell you awesome stability. I jumped around in it, simulated some casts. Even paddled with it in the high seat position, and its runs nice. Did almost turtle when I was standing, but the thing didn't want to flip even when taking on water. I thought I was going over but it's stability just kind of flung me back in my seat.... Luck maybe And my son trying it on... 4 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted May 23, 2015 Super User Posted May 23, 2015 Nice boat! Feel Free makes a good boat, but don't get s ton of press. I paddled a Moken 12 and a 13 for a season and liked them. 1 Quote

Can lift it onto my ladder rack easily, even at the end of a full day fishing. You'll love it. 1 Quote

kawiguy08 Posted May 24, 2015 Posted May 24, 2015 Does anyone have any experiance with the Lifetime Muskie 120 Angler Kayak. I am doing research on it but wanted to see if any one had one out on the water. Thank you in advance. Quote

I am doing research on it but wanted to see if any one had one out on the water. Thank you in advance. My friend has the 10' muskie angler. Not a bad little yak to get you off the bank. I think he paid $479 shipped from Amazon. Came with a paddle and rod holder. It's very bare bones though. The seat is very thin, and the hatches are less than optimal. Quote
kawiguy08 Posted May 24, 2015 Posted May 24, 2015 Ok thnk you. Right now the 120 is 399 at dicks and comes with everything you mentioned. I do not own alot of gear so it will hold my 3 poles and fishing backpack fust fine. Thank you for the feedback. And like you said I am just looking for a way of the back at an ok price. Quote

boostr Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 Took the Yak (FeelFree Lure 11.5) out for the first time today ... What a day, a windy day. I'm gonna cover some points I realized and noticed with this yak. 1. Don't use the highest seat position on a windy day, you lose your center of gravity when you get blown into something, and you try to use your paddle to push off. Yes I went into the drink. Luckily I didn't have any equipment on the Yak cause I was doing a test run. 2. I did stand up plenty of times with no issues once I figured out the best foot placement. 3. The Shoreline Marine smart phone water proof cover from Dick's works awesome, How do I know? see point number 1. Plus I can actually speak and hear clearly through said cover. Pictures come out clear thru the cover also. 4. Definitely need an anchor trolly to use with an anchor, Stake out stick, or drift sock. Had to do the uncontrolled drift and fish. 5. A rudder will help tons 6. Need to find or buy a crate, fishing tackle bag in the yak sucks. It wasn't as bad as I thought to turn around, and grab a tackle tray out of from the rear. 7. Wear a Crocs, sandle or a type of foot wear you don't mind getting soaked, and that dries fast type of footwear. 8. Definitely get cross bars for the Xploder roof rails, and get a real yak rack. Foam blocks blow. 9. And I ain't catch $#!][ 10. Did I tell you it was windy... 3 Quote
Rhino68W Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 I am so glad I got my FS12T. I've been hooked these past few months! Even have my 2nd tournament tomorrow afternoon after work! Quote
