Super User rippin-lips Posted April 20, 2015 Super User Posted April 20, 2015 Built me a scupper cart today out of some pvc parts. Not bad for $10,some sweat, and 20 minutes of my time. It gets the job done. 4 Quote

Super User rippin-lips Posted April 21, 2015 Super User Posted April 21, 2015 Nice job! What are the wheels off of ? The wheels are from a Harmony kayak cart that came with my old yak. It didn't do a very good job of staying in place so I took the wheels from it, and made my own. Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted April 21, 2015 Super User Posted April 21, 2015 I have a relatively cheap Perception Sport Pescador SOT. I have a fish/ski boat that I don't use because it's just too much trouble. I only drag it out when the water gets too cold in the fall. I didn't get into kayak fishing to go broke buying a boat and rigging and wiring this and that. I love the simplicity of it. I do have a homemade milk crate with three rod holders, but usually I leave it at home so I can put a Playmate cooler in the back to take some fish home. I've caught a lot of fish in places others can't or won't go. That's the reason I bought it...so I could be alone and not compete with others every time out. 1 Quote
monkeyman3dee Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 I see a lot of hard plastic kayaks, anyone have any experience with the inflatable ones? The inflatables are more within my budget, and easier to transport. Never kayak fished before, but it looks like so much fun. Quote

Warrior Pilot Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 I just got my first kayak Friday. I looked around and due to availability and my impatience, I settled on an Ascend FS128T from BassPro. I took it out today on my 7 acre pond. I had been using my grandad's old 14ft fiberglass v-hull to fish from. That boat has been parked. Man, I love the kayak. It is stable, tracks into the wind better than the boat and is way more maneuverable. We had wind 10-15 and gusty today. I had no problems putting the FS128 where I wanted. And, with a bed extender, I can haul it on my XUV625 Gator to the pond. I am looking forward to using this thing on a regular basis. On the Gator On the pond 2 Quote
WPCfishing Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 I was fishing out of a kayak 10 years ago before the boom! I like fishing from my canoe now.. more room in it for an old guy like me. 1 Quote
Caliyak Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 I have a Tarpon 100 and love it. But, living in California, I have to find some water to slime it up. I created a fish finder platform from a cutting board. I took my golf cart apart to use the wheels for a cart and metal pieces for the transducer arm. I'm pretty simple so limited equipment. Quote

I saw a very nice inflatable SUP at Grady's Outdoors in Anderson, SC a couple years ago with attachments to add a kayak-type seat to it. If I had seen it before I bought my kayak, I'd probably have it. I haven't been able to find one since. It looked like a great compromise between the two and a good option for standing and casting. Fits in the trunk or closet and I'm getting faster setting up and tearing down. Right now I can have it set up in 15 minutes (inflated and set up seats paddles rod holders, storage, etc.) and torn down in about 30 minutes. If storage and transportation is an issue for you like it was for me, go for it! Quote

There are a few exceptions, but most use a SOT. 1 Quote
keyvike Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 I fish out of a Native Slayer 12. I need to get some good pics to post but i have it setup pretty much just like turtle's Ride 115 is. Quote
inrll Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 It's hard to beat bass fishing from a kayak! I have been doing it for over 10 years now with no plans to buy a boat or change a thing really. Here's my latest addition to the fleet. Its a Native Watecraft, Mariner. The pedal drive as made a world of difference on some of the bigger bodies of water. Here's some of my better fish from last year, all from a kayak of course. 2 Quote
keyvike Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 Great to see so many kayak fisherman. It's one the hottest things going and growing like wildfire across the country. LOVE IT! Quote
Texas Hawg Hunter Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 This is my Heritage Angler 10 footer. I really like the 10 because it fits in my truck with no fancy equipment and is carryable by myself without messing with a cart. Put a milk crate in the back, have a drift chute, and will likely get a flag and/or stern light for increased visibility. Took it out for the first time last weekend, caught some white bass, but seeing that motorboat pulling a wakeboarder just made me a bit uneasy I was never in any danger but still would like to increase my water profile. massrob Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 This is my first year with a kayak and it has been unbelievable. The other day I had probably my most exciting day of fishing in my life. Throwing topwater had a ton of blowups caught a bunch of fish. Missed a bunch too but that's fishing. I have a ride 115 and I've been wondering about standing up. I can do it but not very well. Does it get easier the more you do it? I think I have pretty good balance but it just feels wierd.Just being out on the water is so much better. Best investment I've ever made. Quote
Jim Mac Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Do you mean you are having trouble getting up from a seated position, or having trouble balancing once you are standing? Either way, it will get easier the more you do it. I don't fish while standing in my kayak, but I do use a stand-up assist rope/handle, which makes it much easier to stand from a seated position, and getting in and out of my kayak(Nucanoe Frontier 12). Quote
massrob Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 I can stand up fine it's once I'm standing it just feels like I'm gonna fall. I think it's getting easier the more I do it. I've only been on it 15 or so times. I'm just wondering if it just takes time to get it down. I'd like to stand up and fish. I think I'll figure it out anyway. Just wondering if it's normal? Quote
Super User HoosierHawgs Posted May 20, 2015 Super User Posted May 20, 2015 Wilderness Systems Ride 115 (stable enough to stand and fish) with a Humminbird 346c DI Fish Finder My crate with a lid works on other bass too! Nice set up! How'd you set up your crate? Quote
