Rooney12 Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 I was wondering if the Type-R has a clicking drag star? I have read reviews (Tackle Tour) saying the reel has a clicking drag star so I was surprised when mine arrived and it does not. Just wondering if there is something wrong with mine, thanks! Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted January 8, 2015 Super User Posted January 8, 2015 Should definitely have a clicking drag star. Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted January 8, 2015 Super User Posted January 8, 2015 Check the schematic in the reel box. Make sure all parts are there inside the drag star assembly. Chances are you are missing a small part responsible for making the clicking sound. If you happened to take apart your reel chances are it might have happened at that time that it "flew out". Quote

I received the reel earlier today and have not taken it apart. I don't know if I should open it up to try and figure it out or send it back, I don't feel a $500 reel should need fixing out of the box! 2 Quote

Super User aavery2 Posted January 8, 2015 Super User Posted January 8, 2015 $300 I thought for a minute there I was going to have to be the bearer of bad news. Your right, the reel should be right out of the box. If everything else works well it should be a small problem that can be easily fixed. If it were mine I would take a look at it. Quote
Trey Harpel Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 from Tackle warehouse? I know they were selling 1 that had a star issue but was like 279$ or something. Quote
Rooney12 Posted January 8, 2015 Author Posted January 8, 2015 from Tackle warehouse? I know they were selling 1 that had a star issue but was like 279$ or something. It was from Tackle Warehouse, on their 25 days of savings sale so I assume there shouldn't have been any issues with it. Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted January 8, 2015 Super User Posted January 8, 2015 The reel does not have a clicking drag. It has a clicking drag star. Quote

Rooney12 Posted January 8, 2015 Author Posted January 8, 2015 What parts are responsible for making the drag star click (first time owning a Daiwa)? Quote
thehooligan Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 What parts are responsible for making the drag star click (first time owning a Daiwa)? Look for part # 91, that clip will give you the click. Quote

Super User rippin-lips Posted January 8, 2015 Super User Posted January 8, 2015 A metal spring under the drag star. It's shaped like a wishbone sorta kinda. Quote
Rooney12 Posted January 9, 2015 Author Posted January 9, 2015 After talking to Tackle Warehouse about the issue they informed me that they were unaware some right handed models did not have a clicking drag star. Unfortunately because they have no more in stock I can't exchange it, guess I'll have to live without the clicking drag star. Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted January 9, 2015 Super User Posted January 9, 2015 Dang sorry to hear that. That's kind of a bummer. Quote
Cgrinder Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Should be a pretty easy fix. The click plate and spring are cheap if that's what you are missing and a click-compatible star is like $25, though if it came with the stock star you're in business there. Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted January 10, 2015 Super User Posted January 10, 2015 The leaf spring and leaf spring holder will run you $2.30 direct from Daiwa. Plus their shipping charges. I'm still confused as to why yours doesn't click though. It's a stock feature on that reel. Quote

This was their response: "The reel is not missing any parts, some were manufactured with out this feature. Unfortunately there would be not way to "add" a click adjustment .This has only been brought to our attention recently." Quote

I don't think that's correct and whoever you are talking with is wrong about adding it part. People take the px68 which is the jdm version of the pxr and add the clicking drag using pxr parts. The crappy part is it's about $75 for the conversion parts. Less for you since your reel already has the majority of them though. The drag star is the most expensive part @ $29 Can you post a pic of your reel? Quote

Super User aavery2 Posted January 10, 2015 Super User Posted January 10, 2015 Taken apart or all together? If you have it apart, look inside the drag star and see if has ridges. Quote
Rooney12 Posted January 10, 2015 Author Posted January 10, 2015 Sorry don't know how to upload images. Quote
