crazylot Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Hey guys new to freshwater. Took my boat out on 1/5/14 to Blue lagoon in Miami Fl, did plenty of research on what i needed to look for and got some lures. Attached a picture. Read this is the top spot for fishing peacocks and other fish. Ok so I dont know too much about lures, the one on top goes about 1 foot under the water, and the one on the bottom skips on top of the water. I was there at 11AM for about 3 hours going to different spots that would have fish and did not get a single bite with either lure, not even a nibble. Am I doing something wrong? is it just because of the time of year? Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted January 8, 2015 Super User Posted January 8, 2015 Those are great baits for pea's you have to move them fast and eratic. As far as why you didn't catch anything, who knows. At least with me if i am specifically fishing for pea's i have to cover alot water. I don't fish the blue lagoon chain because pea's all over the place down here. The warmer the water the more active they become. Keep at it. You'll get em. Quote
crazylot Posted January 8, 2015 Author Posted January 8, 2015 Thanks I am glad i bought the right lures. I just thought it was weird that I didn't even get a nibble or a small fish. I guess I will have to try more in a couple months when it gets warmer. Quote
Jlo23 Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Blue lagoon hasn't been real productive lately, If I were you I would fish all the interior canals leading to blue lagoon, you'll find tons of peas and may get a nice surprise there as well.. Tarpon and snook 1 Quote
Shane Procell Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Your a little early for the Rapala Skitter Walk. The Rapala X-Rap you showed is a god peacock catching bait. I too would bypass the Lagoon and head back into the neighborhood canals. Every point, bridge piling and seawall is a potential hot spot for a peacock strike. Pretty soon you will start seeing peacocks pairing up and or with fry. Then that little x-rap will really shine. When it does warm up in the spring I would work some prop baits into your arsenal. Good Luck, Capt. Shane Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted January 8, 2015 Super User Posted January 8, 2015 I have caught peacocks on just about every hard lure, jerkbaits, spoons, top water poppers, you name it. In my neck of the woods the 2 most prolific peacock lures is a crappie jig and a roostertail. Couple of weeks ago I was catching quite a few, can't buy a strike now. Quote
Super User geo g Posted January 10, 2015 Super User Posted January 10, 2015 The hotter the weather the brighter the sky the better. Summer at noon is an ideal time. You don't need to get up early to catch peacocks. I always had good luck with #9 and #11 Rapala stickbaits in both gold and silver. In the warmer weather you can trigger a strike by ripping them fast and steady. Quote
