Hey guys, I have a small plastic 8 foot boat with a small trolling motor.

1 - Is it worth getting electronics for it?

2- What suggestions for electronics do you have?

3 - What features would be most important?

Thanks for the input!

Piranha 197c DI, less than $150. No reason to put a boat in the water and be blind. I have a Sonar/DI on my Uncle Bucks and wish I would have went with a GPS/Chartplotter, I could save spots. Brian.

It depends on where you fish. I think it totally would be and had one on my 10' boat when I had it. They just help you to locate fish and or structure/cover. These days, the features I'd be looking for a basic locator to have would be a color display and gps as well. Side and down imaging would still be effective on a small boat like that it just depends on how much you want to spend, and how much you plan on using it.

You can rig up a Side Imaging unit on a float and pull it along when wade fishing.

Just depends on how much you want to spend on technology.

The size of the craft makes no difference.

I use a Fishing Buddy on my 10' Pelican.  It mounts just as the trolling does and is powered by AA batteries.  I usually get a full season from one set of batteries.

I have a hummingbird that folds up and stays in a bag with the suction cup to stick to the bottom.

I've got a Lowrance Mark 4 and Lowrance Mark 4 HDI on my johnboat. I really suggest the 4 HDI for a small boat, it's a nice little unit that's easy to use and read.

I also have this unit, but replaced the suction cup with a clamp.
