Green Trout Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Does anyone fish a Carolina Rig in Shallow Water? (1-5 feet)? If so, how do you fish it differently and why do you like it over a dropshot? Quote
illinifan4152 Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 I occasionally fish it in shallow water. If so i will usually put it on a 7ft MHF rod, with a little shorter leader (14-16 inches) and a 3/8 oz weight. I fish it the the same way i would fish it in deeper water, around shallow rockpiles or isolated stumps. still a great search tool for sluggish fish who wont bite a faster moving bait such as a spinnerbait or crankbait. 1 Quote
Super User gardnerjigman Posted January 7, 2015 Super User Posted January 7, 2015 Guy I used to fish jack pot tourneys did this a lot. cut his leader length in half basically and had great success. Our lake was full of hydrilla, and he would destroy them. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted January 7, 2015 Super User Posted January 7, 2015 Yes - A down sized version called a split shot rig. And it's almost always fished on spinning gear. A-Jay 1 Quote

Super User scaleface Posted January 7, 2015 Super User Posted January 7, 2015 I'll cast it in shallow water then retrieve it to deeper water like on a flat or point. I fish it the same way as deeper depths with 3/4 ounce egg sinker to cover water quickly. A lot of fish come shallow. Quote
Brent Bartman Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 I'm fishing bluff walls or steep banks I will cast onto the bank or against the bluff wall and drag it to where the fish should be maybe a bit last to cover the entire water column very fast. Quote
Brent Bartman Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 It's a great way for docks and boat ramps. Cast into land and get a silent drag into the water. If the bass are there your getting bit Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 13, 2015 Global Moderator Posted January 13, 2015 I hate C rigging but my biggest C rig fish (5.5 pounds) was in about 3' of water on a flat point. Only thing I usually change is a lighter weight. Quote
