Jlo23 Posted January 13, 2015 Author Posted January 13, 2015 Too bad you couldn't edit the video. I would have loved to have seen a different part of the glades I have never seen before. Just the screen shot alone confirms this. It's pretty cool out there man. The scenery is enough to be able to call it a "good day" the fish are just a bonus. If you ever wanna take a run out there, shoot me a PM! My tin wouldn't be too hard to carry over the weirs when the water level drop! Quote
Super User South FLA Posted January 14, 2015 Super User Posted January 14, 2015 I ran it in my 21 Stratos a couple of weeks ago. Tight for me but fine for your boat. Here is the video of the run. This will give you an idea of what to expect. I bet you miss the Gheenoe sometimes! Â Quote

SFL BassHunter Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Hey guys I am planning to go out tomorrow morning and do some bank fishing. Considering the canal behind Holiday Park, or a few of the rest areas on Alligator alley (least probable), or maybe a bit further north to the Holey Lands. Any recommendations? Also having to consider the danger (gators and all), as I will be bank fishing most likely by myself. Any up to date fishing reports about those places would be great help! Quote

Also having to consider the danger (gators and all), as I will be bank fishing most likely by myself. Any up to date fishing reports about those places would be great help! If I had to bank fish in the glades, I would choose holey lands. More bank accessibility than the alley and Holiday. On the West side of the ramps, and West side of the big lake there is alot of bank access. Now I have not personally fished it, but from what I seen there is trail back there that leads to the area I am referencing. As far as gators go, keep an eye out. My concern would be the slithering kind. So wear boots. I wouldn't fish the other locations because from what I have seen and experienced in my younger days when i didnt have a boat, is bank access. Throw in a few people because of the holiday and bank access becomes even less. Good luck out there Rick. Quote
SFL BassHunter Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Thanks for the advice Lou. I always wear boots no matter were I go fishing helps with bugs, and like you said snakes. If I do go to the Holey Lands I will most likely stick to any canals by the dirt roads. I won't be going to deep into the place either. At least not by myself. I'm not trying to become survivorman out in gator country. Quote

Its directly across the ramp on the SW side of the big lake. From what I can remember its a long stretch of accessible bank. You just may have to maneuver through a short trail to access the area I am describing. Quote
Super User geo g Posted January 19, 2015 Super User Posted January 19, 2015 I agree with Lou, the Holey Land has good access all along. You can easily run all the way out to the big pump station and the Miami Canal. They recently mowed the banks out there so you have good visibility for the snakes. Endless bank fishing opportunities. SFL BassHunter Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Awesome thanks guys. Guess thats the plan for tomorrow! Short grass means I'm in. Hopefully I can hook up with a big un. Quote
SFL BassHunter Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Well it was not a great day, only 1 today in Holey Lands. But at least it was a decent 2 pounds. Quote

SFL BassHunter Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 I actually fished the big lake and the canal that connects to it. The grass was nice and low, no gators, but no fish. I saw a couple bowfins ( i think). Saw some Gar, and small bass. I got the hit on a Yum Dinger on the second cast after I had tried top water and a crank. So instinctively I stuck with the Dinger for maybe another 30 minutes and got nothing. The water was pretty clear and there were a few spots that had small fish, other areas were completely desolate even between the pads. The bigger fish must have been held up in deeper water. I tried faster retrieval and slow retrieval to the point of barely moving. Â Â Quote

I think you were in a different area. You were deeper into the Holey Land than I was. I only got a chance to fish the big lake. I didn't get as far as the Miami Canal. The only truck I saw was a white pickup and it probably belonged to the guys fishing the lake on a jon boat. But I'm glad you had some luck out there. Maybe next time I will try and fish the Miami Canal if the bank is maintained well like the big lake was. Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted January 25, 2015 Super User Posted January 25, 2015 Headed out yesterday with my BIL to both MM35 and US 27. First half of the day was at MM35 attempted to go MM41 but very dense hyacinths mats made my passage futile. Passing cold front with high winds also made the fishing very challenging. We caught 5 bass 1 being 3.5lbs. After the cold front blew over, we made our way to US 27. The water conditions better. No hyacinth's lol. Winds were still high, but we were able to land 19 more bass for total of 24 for the day. Soft plastics and frogs  produced the catches. 1 Quote

You did a great job considering the crap weather. I was so tempted to go out to 8th street canal by the valujet memorial or somewhere down the canal. But said screw it. Quote

Super User geo g Posted January 26, 2015 Super User Posted January 26, 2015 Sunday 1/25/15, Alligator Alley MM 39. Went out today after the cold front with Dave (Canesfan). We were not expecting much because a good front can turn off Florida Bass quickly, and a blue bird sky, a double whammy.   To our pleasant surprise we had almost constant action for most of the morning. You had to fish slow and just slowly pull the plastics to be on the bite. Vast majority were in the pads. We ended with at least 70, solid fish and good fight getting them out of the pads. All around fun day, and lots of action. SamTheHam Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Sunday 1/25/15 sawgrass off us 27. Homestead Hawg hunter club tournament 6 am to 2pm. I fished as a co angler. Weather was around 50 degrees in the morning, water was clear, and clear blue skies. The morning started out slow and picked up as the day got warmer. I got a total of 10 bites, 6 fish landed, 4 were keepers and weighed in a total of 7.53 pounds. 13.99 won the tournament. Soft plastics was what produced for me. Junebug and watermelon colors fished very slow. Overall had a great time on the water. Sawgrass park is quite relaxing. Quote
Gotfishyfingers? Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Nice reports everyone!!! I went out of Holiday Park the other day but had to cut the trip short due to trolling motor battery issues. Got some new ones this weekend so I'm back in action. The boat ramps on 27, north of 75 looked pretty busy yesterday (more than usual). Was headed up to Lake O. Quote
SamTheHam Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Sunday 2/1 Alligator Alley 9 am to 2pm mile marker 35. Temperature 66 to 70 and water temperature still cold. Had a slight overcast the entire day. Fished with friend from the hawg hunters. Fished the alley west after seeing geog report last week and the action was the same. We got a late morning start to the day but started catching them in the pads around 10:30 am. All the fish were dinks measuring around 10 to 11 inches. We lost a few larger ones in the pads. The action was constant until around noon and the bite slowed a little. Ended the day with a little over 20 fish on the boat. Caught all of mine with flukes and stick baits. My buddy lost a nice healthy fish on a jig but lost it right next to the boat. Overall very fun day. Might bring the lady with me next week to catch some more. 3 Quote
