Jlo23 Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Hey guys, Jordan here from south Florida. Just got myself a jon boat and was looking for some new water to fish. I've fished l67 few times and also fished out of the holey lands a couple times as well. Any suggestions? Quote
Super User geo g Posted January 7, 2015 Super User Posted January 7, 2015 Little 67 is a nice spot for a small boat. Go west on 41 past the Miccasukee to the 20 mile bend. Go across the bridge to the memorial for the plan crash. The concrete ramp is on the little canal past the memorial. The canal is only 20 feet wide in spots and goes for miles through the flats. There are lots of pads out there. Stay in the middle when running, the sides are solid rock, and jagged in spots. Lots of quality bass caught out there, and few people fishing Little 67. Super User geo g Posted January 7, 2015 Super User Posted January 7, 2015 No it goes no where near L28, Little 67 parallels big 67, and runs toward the Miami River from US41. It runs through a massive flat. It is a quiet place to fish without all the big boats running past. A john boat with a little kicker is perfect out there. L 28, sometimes call the Interceptor canal, from 41 is another good place to fish in a john boat. There are 7 weirs to pull the john boat over. You can fish out there and be totally by yourself. Lots of cypress out there. Quote
Backlash123 Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Little L67 is a great place. Now the canal does go for miles, but they blocked it off around the 3 or 4 mile mark. There are some big orange signs and a few milk jugs anchored in the middle of the canal to indicate where it's blocked off. Now, if you are in a jon boat, you may be able to pull it over the rocks and fish the rest (not sure on the legality of fishing past the block). Tightlines. 1 Quote

I remember that day ;)All the information the guys above said is good. That L-28 off Tamiami Tr is not a secret but, but you would think it was since I rarely see many boats out there. It is 10 miles of fish and some kind of pretty! It has shallow deer crossings (like the area I took you) that keep the big boats out. You really should get out there. 1 Quote

Just watch for downed trees in the water, and stay in the middle, rocky edges to that canal. If you run it early in the morning you will covered with spiders from the trees!!!! Always fun! 1 Quote

Super User geo g Posted January 9, 2015 Super User Posted January 9, 2015 There is a dirt ramp along 41 just before the guard rail starts. I have no problem dropping my boat in although sometimes it does get muddy. It is a good run down the canal before it turns to the north west toward the first weir. If the water is high enough you may be able to power over the weir in a small boat. There are six more weirs to cross. Quote

Come spring there will be no water on the weirs...that's when it get's really good back there. Goodmorning, fished out there yesterday (Sunday) had a real good day. Took my mom out and she caught a couple of her own. We had to sit all the way in the bow of my boat to keep the prop from scratching the bottom on the weirs! Lots of small fish and 3 fish over 3.5lbs, fished weightless flukes all day. I just wanna know how I'm gonna get passed the weirs in no water at all.... Quote

Now when you get out and walk over that weir you have to worry about pythons besides cotton mouths. It was thick with gators in the low water season. 1 Quote

I'll link you guys to a video that I took yesterday crossing the weirs in my jon boat.. I was with my mom and I didn't want her getting out so I had her sit all the way in the bow and I dragged it all the way through. Luckily didn't run into anything dangerous.. Quote
