Super User A-Jay Posted January 5, 2015 Super User Posted January 5, 2015 When a local breeder fell upon some hard times, despite a heavy heart, she made the difficult and ethical decision to break up her kennel. Brody & Gunner are 14 month old litter mates. These healthy & friendly boys are gorgeous and full of life. They were welcomed into the pack yesterday just the way a malamute should be, during a serious snow storm . . . . It’s good to have a Full House again. Let the dog Sled Drag Races ... Begin ! We're between 5 & 10 below today and the wind chill is making it quite a bit colder - The dogs don't care - must be nice. A-Jay 3 Quote
Djf3864 Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Those dogs are built for the cold, and seem to excel the colder it gets. Meanwhile I am sitting there putting cloths on my dogs to keep them from turning into popsicles. Quote

Temps here fairly seasonal and are hanging around the zero mark (cooler with the wind chill). No Go Pro but we snap off shots when we can. A-Jay Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted January 25, 2015 Author Super User Posted January 25, 2015 Been working with Brody & Gunner now for just about 3 weeks. This is the point where we usually start to see who they really are; meaning that if the training & the incorporation into the pack is going well, the dogs start to let their hair down if you will and show their real personalities. It's always a super fun & rewarding period. Experience has proven to us, time & time again, that getting out & exercising with our dogs is about the best way to bring it all together. And a tired dog is a happy dog - love seeing those long tongues. It's a process and definitely not a race. Been making steady improvements and yesterday, one at a time, they both were introduced to pulling the sled, always an interesting event. It went like most first days go but by the end of the run, which we kept brief, they had sort of figured out what the deal was. So today was day two, and they both made significant improvement. Certainly not ready for the Iditarod, but there were considerably less snafu's than yesterday. Lynn managed to shoot a brief clip of me returning with Brody this afternoon - he looks like he's been doing it for years in the video. cadman Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 A-Jay, really beautiful dogs. Pardon my ignorance but are those Huskies or Alaskan Malamutes? Also if you don't mind, but can you tell me the difference between a Husky and a Alaskan malamute, any pros and cons of either. I always wanted one, but my wife is not ready yet. Quote

Sorry I didn't see this earlier - There are some fairly distinct differences between the two breeds - I've had both. Gunner and Brody are Alaskan Malamutes. Pros & cons of any breed are in the eye of the potential owner. You & your wife should read all you can find about both breeds and make an educated choice regarding dog ownership when the time is right. PM me for more. Good Luck A-Jay Quote
