In regards to high IPT on a spinning reel, I choose to have it in the event I make a let's say 60 foot cast (3 boat lengths, 20 yards) then let my bait sink down say another 15-18 feet, pick up and I have a fish on.  I then set the hook and a 4 lb spotted bass swims as quickly as possible back towards my trolling motor.  At this point, I want to be able to keep pressure on this fish while they head towards me and eventually take control of this fish.  That's my reasoning I like the highest IPT on a spinning rod I can get.  I'm not trying to burn my bait back to the boat as part of a retrieve with it.  I am not really a fan of reeling the bait in slowly before making my next cast though.  I also like to make the longest cast I possibly can, I want to be as far away from a fish as possible when it sees my bait.  Does the extra 5 feet I get from a cast make a difference?  I don't really know, but I have some people who have stood on the back of my boat that would say my extra 10 feet does.
If I'm throwing a spinning rod I am throwing 7 lb test.  Period.  If I am going higher than that I use a baitcaster.  I don't use too many 1/16 oz and less baits and I don't use many baits over a half ounce on a spinning rod.  I don't have much advice to give in those regards as they just aren't fished too efficiently for me on a spinning rod.  I can try to tell you my experiences catching 5+ lb spotted bass and 7+ lb largemouth on a spinning rod regularly year round from a boat.

I'm not concerned about a bass ever running 50 yards, I hope no one is saltwater people may be, but I'm not really on that same page.

I've always liked bigger spinning reels. Pflueger 35,shimano 4000, Daiwa 3000.

I like my fuego 3000 and ci4+4000 the best. More cranking power and casting distance. They are both fairly light for their size.

I guess it comes down to what you feel comfortable using because that's what really matters.

I match the reel to the rod for balance and comfort.  Rod length, lure profile, line type and size has more to with distance than a lot of line on the spool, bass don't make 50 yd. runs and most lures won't cast that far.  Working many lures with spinning it's a twitch/pop/jerk and pause, don't see line p/u or ratio too important.  It's what feels right to each individual.

After buying too many spinning reels in the last few years, I learned this. ^

I found that the sizes that seem to make the most sense end up being too heavy (and hold way more line than necessary).   Good modern rods are light, and need light reels for a good balance and feel.  I have spinning reels I rarely use because they weigh down the end of their rods like bricks.

I like the little ones!

Tight lines,

The only real advantage I see in using a larger spool for bass fishing is line management with mono or copoly, being a braid user that's a non issue for me.

I can understand the concern of picking up line while the fishing is swimming towards the boat or bank, I've yet to see a bass swimming at 20+ mph after being hooked.  Being a non technical fisherman and not over complicating landing a fish, I just reel a 5# bass in, I don't over think it.  What distinguishes bass fishing is the challenge of locating them and enticing a strike, that's the fun of it.

I'm holding my rod just above the reel that seems to change the balance making the outfit more comfortable to fish with.  With my hand on the foregrip (why I prefer using inshore rods) I feel I have better hook setting leverage as well leverage in handling a larger fish, that's just the way I do it.  Don't know when I started doing it this way, could have been when I first started saltwater fishing, it has morphed it's way into my freshwater fishing.
