Gonna be making a trip to lake of ozarks this yr late April. Just looking for info.... Would the north end of lake be better then down around pb2 or maybe some decent places to try. Taking my dad so would like to get on some fish as it's kind of a one time kinda trip .... Any and all info is much appreciated thanks in advance

Supposedly all parts of the lake hold fish equally, so I'd say to fish wherever you're comfortable. Up the river is normally dirty water while near the dam is usually fairly clear. I'm partial to the gravois area, but I've heard the area around PB2 is quite good for fishing.

There's no way to predict what the fish will be doing then. If you want to stay as up to date as possible check out bassing bob. For $45 a year you have access to almost daily fishing reports, but the real value is in the monthly experts videos. The reports do help you know what's working and what the water temps are, though.

I plan on taking a trip there this spring, and if you ask closer to the time I'm sure you could get better advice of what the fish are doing.

Hopefully gardenerjigman will chime in, he knows a lot about LOZ.

My favorite lake by far (big lake that is)!! I prefer the lower lake around the dam. I stay at the 2 MM but fish from the dam to 7 mm. Also enjoy the gravious. April for me at LOZ has always been about a 3/8 oz pb&j jig on shallow docks, chunk rock and pea gravel. Shaky head has been another killer.

I will say, thanks to bluebasser86, that I now have a second favorite technique there. I had him tweak a color for me on his Big Head Wobbler (bladed jig) to closely match a green gizzard shad. He named it Kicker Shad. I threw it A LOT this October at LOZ and destroyed the 2-4lb fish. If it would have been a five fish tourny I could have easily had a 18-20lb bag each day (3 days) in the first 3 hours off of this alone.

So... My 3 recommendations,

1. join bassing Bob a month before you go ( can do a 1 month deal for $10). I wasn't too impressed with the daily reports but the expert meeting videos (guides and lake pros) are great. There should be a good bit of info there as the big bass bash is in early april. I will be there twice in April and will post reports. (Union tourny and BBB)

2. PM bluebasser86 and get some of his jigs, wobble head jig heads and bladed jigs.

3. Enjoy the opportunity to be on the water with your father!

Good luck bud.

Thanks guys.... Yea I figured just by looking at google earth that the docks are everywhere lol so I guess we will probably try to find a cove with a good creek flowin in and start in the back. Lol that lakes freakin huge ....

It will probably be in the prespawn stages in April. Docks are plentiful and do hold a lot of fish. Watch for docks with rod holders as most of these have some type of planted cover close by. As for available cover, planted brush piles and docks are the predominant sources, with a few lay downs in some areas.

If you find males getting beds ready, the bigger females with be staging in about eight feet and a jig or crawdad color wiggle wart is hard to beat.

As stated above, as we get closer to April, post for a recent report. Most of us regulars will have already spent several days on the water and can offer more timely information at that time.

All good stuff you're getting from this thread. All I'll add is don't be afraid to scale down, like really scale down. This girl took 3 hours to make up her mind and decided on a 3/32 oz shaky head. That same little shaky head called in some big spots in 8-10 FOW with pea gravel bottom.

As the other guys said, let us know how you do! There's nowhere I'd rather be in Spring than on LOZ. You can rip bass all day with a good chance at a 6-8 lb fish, then then fill a limit of keeper black crappie at sundown if the spawn's on. I don't care who you are, that there's fun.

Which weekend do you plan on coming to LOZ?  There will be over 1000 boats on the water 18th & 19th for the Big Bass Bash.  I've fished two of these on LOZ in 2014, they are a blast!

The weekend after the tournament lol if I entered that thing it would be like I just burned my own money lol

It's only another $165 added onto your trip for a chance at $60k. For a one fish tournament it's anybody's ball game. I'll be there as well.  :respect-059:

If you are fishing the weekend after the 'Big Bass Bash' and are not sure where you want to fish on the lake, it wouldn't hurt to do a little research about the results of the tournament online. You can get a bit of an idea of what area of the lake was hot based on where the big fish were weighed, and you'll even see some people on forums here and there talking pretty openly about what worked for them in the tourney. I plan on fishing that tourney, and if I figure anything out, I'll be happy to share. Last 'Bash' I didn't get to fish, so I'm itching to get out there. Of course, a lot can change in a week, but 1000 anglers can provide some fairly relevant data.

Alohana resort is where the biggest percentage of money fish are weighed. Been like that for the last few years. That's on the lower end of the lake. Again, my main water is from the mouth of the gravious to bagnell.

The exact numbers are, as of the 2013 fall BBB, 55% of fish were weighed in at Alhonna, 45% at Red Oak, 36% at PB2, and 12% at Red Fox (info from BassinBob). Even though that was a while back where people are weighing in probably stays pretty constant year-to-year. I'm not really sure how to interpret this info, but personally I would try and avoid the major weigh-in locations and maybe go up the river a little and try to find some fish that haven't been beat up too bad.

That entire like is pressured on nearly a daily basis. The lower end, in my opinion, simply holds more fish and forage. Cleaner water, more comfortable temps, plenty of areas for them to stage without swimming long distances. Even the bassing Bob "pros" say that the lower end is where it's at.

By all means though, fish the river! ;) lol

We caught a lot of solid keepers in the river last time I fished down there, but nothing that would win you much at BBB. The biggest fish I've seen at LOZ was by PB2 but I've never gone much further down the lake than that.

Intersting. I was conflicted on how to interpret the data.

In a way, though, I am just kind of curious to fish up the river to see what it's like. My grandparents have a place at the 9 MM of the Osage so I have never been further up the lake than the Toll bridge. I guess going to see what things are like up the river may not be the best thing to try on the weekend of the BBB, though.

The river definetly holds fish... And big ones at that.

I just prefer the lower end. Predictable conditions, and patterns seem to last longer. They say the lower end is 3 weeks behind the upper on patterns. I tend to believe them.

I agree with this we were running down the lake pretty far this fall to stay on a pattern that was long over up the river.
