fisherrw Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 What do you think of gopros? I'm thinking of getting the new hero for 130 or the white for 200. Thanks. Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted January 4, 2015 Super User Posted January 4, 2015 My wife gifted me a gopro hero for Xmas. Cool little piece of tech. So many applications for it. Especially for bass fishing. I made my first short video just the other day of me fishing in the Everglades. You have to be patient and look through the video until you find the clips you want and then familiarize yourself with the editing software. If I can do it, anyone can do it... lol. Have fun and enjoy your new toy. Quote
IAY Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 I think its really good product to take video of your fishing trip with. Be mindful that you will have to purchase a lot of extra things like a chestmount which can be quite expensive before you make the commitment. Quote

Certain models can do things others can't, and have different quality video. Know what features you want, and outline a budget as well. Quote

Just look at the ends of each video. Jeff 3 Quote

Mudrider34 Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 I have one and love it. They have this mount called the sportsman mount I have u can mount it to ur rod itself it's pretty neat I can also mount it to my bow and rifle for hunting. It's just not really good for distance as they don't have a zoom it's more for first person recording views IMO Quote
HardcoreBassin Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 I just picked up a Hero 3+ Silver edition for the same type of applications. Go to the GoPro site and look at their comparison tables between models. There are a lot of differences in features between the white, silver and black editions. Make sure you choose the one that best fits what you'll be using it for! There are also TONS of videos on youtube of people comparing shooting speeds and cameras. - Dale Quote
MikeJames Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Accessories can get expensive but most can be easily made for cheap. I made an extendable pole mount for about $12. 2 Wasabi batteries can be bought with a dual battery charger for less then $30 on ebay. If you plan on mounting it directly to a boat or kayak I recommend using a floaty back door and tethering it to the boat itself. You can buy a pack of sticky mounts on Ebay cheap also. Just don't cheap out on the SD cards, get quality cards or they cause problems. I used a camera monopod and tripod adapter for the extendable pole mount monopod http://www.walmart.com/ip/Targus-Red-TG-MP6710-67-Camera-Camcorder-Monopod/10370963 Tripod adapter http://www.lightinthebox.com/gopro-hero-3-2-1-tripod-adapter_p1486731.html?currency=USD&litb_from=paid_adwords_shopping&gclid=CObQgeiBgMMCFfPm7AoduloAjQ Quote
tnbassfisher Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Are y'all using the housing that comes with it or the dive housing while you are on the water? I got one for Christmas, but have yet to use it on the water. Quote

Super User WIGuide Posted January 7, 2015 Super User Posted January 7, 2015 Awesome little cameras that are fun to play with. Accessories can get pricey in a hurry though, but if you buy a few things to start and slowly work your way up it's not as bad. If the camera you are looking at has wifi capabilities you can control it through your phone and get a live preview. The other nice thing about it is it lays out all the options in the easiest way possible to navigate. On their latest app update they added in a highlight feature so you can highlight a part of the video so you can go right back to it when you start your edit. Otherwise you can stop recording as 00 mod said. For recording on the water, if the camera is inside the boat I usually use the skeleton housing for better audio quality, but if there's a chance it's going to get wet I use the standard waterproof housing instead. The other nice thing about them is you can go back and take pictures from your video here's a few as an example: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10202909440489480&l=0d04d5f4b6 https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10202909440169472&l=3a1803a83d https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10202909443529556&l=68ef192597 Quote
BassnChris Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Some of them......I know my 3+ black......can be set to loop......so I only keep what I want. Example: I record in 5 minute loop......it records continuously.....when I stop the recording it keeps that moment back five minutes. Then I press the button again and it starts all over again. Pretty cool device. Quote
atcoha Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 got a hero3+ silver last year...I love it, don't use it as much as I should, but will use it more this year. I have mounts on my kayak and jon boat, and also use the head strap. Got some good fishing videos this past year. Quote
