That was the same year I got hooked on artificial baits and that, a Lazy Ike, a Daredevil, and a Mepp's spinner became mainstays in my tacklebox. 1 Quote

Todd2 Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 Lost it years ago. A orange Rooster Tail. I put it my pocket one day when I was about ten y/o. I had to cut it out with scissors which left a hole in my shorts pocket. I forgot about the hole and put a $10 bill in the pocket to ride rides at the fair. Needless to say, I lost the $10. Lures have been costing me money every since, lol. I think the Rooster Tail ended up in my pond. 3 Quote

Blue and yellow skirt with white blades that had silver flake on them. I still have the bait. The skirt band has since rotted. I keep it in a zip lock bag in my man cave. 1 Quote
Super User RoLo Posted January 4, 2015 Super User Posted January 4, 2015 If I still had the lure that caught my first bass, it would be about 65 years old today It was called a "Creek Chub Injured Minnow", it's now a collector's item, but was similar to today's Devils Horse (propbait) Back then, those who were fortunate enough to own a boat usually owned a rowboat complete with oarlocks and oars.When we stopped to fish, the oars would be sitting in the water on both sides of the boat. Soon after catching my first bass, I whacked one of the oars on my backcast, which busted the Injured Minnow in half (it went from injured to dead). This was around 1950, a time when plastic plugs were slowly replacing wooden plugs, but the first plastic plugs were from hunger. Many of the vintage plastics had a weak seam joining two halves (not along the length, but thru the center). My Creek Chub plug broke in two halves, the fore spinner attached to one half, the aft spinner attached to the other. Roger 2 Quote
pbizzle Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 I hope it was plastic. I caught my first on a Heddon Crazy Crawler many moons ago...don't have the lure, but a great memory instead. Hahahahaha!!! It sure was! It was one of those really cheap plastics that come in the little spincast combos. The worm is so stiff that I'm surprised it even caught a fish! Quote

My dad used to fish the James with his brother all the time and once I was big enough to go (probably 6 yrs old) I would go with them. We slayed the smallies on those hula grubs! 1 Quote
