Blaker87 Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 For those of you who use these, how do you rig them? I enjoy using them for wacky because I get bit a lot BUT I never get a hook set. I hook right in the middle and I believe the legs are wat get bit. Any tips? Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted January 3, 2015 Super User Posted January 3, 2015 Keep in mind not all bites are from bass, it could be a panfish nibbling. Here are a couple of things I'd do though if this was happening to me: 1. Change the color (or JJ's Magic!) or profile (size). If it is bass in fact taking a swipe then it isn't what they are looking for, many times where I get short strikes...doing one or the other makes a difference. 2. Make sure the bass has it, when I usually wacky rig or any plastic bait fishing I make sure they have it. Don't set the hook on every nibble. 3. For wacky rigging you don't need to do a hard hook set. I use a sweeping motion. 4. If number 1 doesn't work try a different bait. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted January 3, 2015 Super User Posted January 3, 2015 I've not had a lot of success with them...at all. The Stik-O is a far more successful bait from BPS by my experience. As for rigging, just a wacky hook through the X of the bait. For wacky in general, when I feel a hit I reel down and lift. No hefty jerk of the rod. Or, depending on the circumstance (low lying branches, etc), I'll sweep the rod, as lmbfisherman suggested. Quote
BaitMonkey1984 Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 I just got these in from BPS. I was disappointed because I thought they would be a lot wider. I was expecting the width to be comparable to a 5" senko but they are much skinnier. Only benefit is that they may have more action on the fall. I guess I have to wait for soft water to see how they do with catching fish, but in any event they will present the fish with a presentation that they have not seen before on my waters, so they still have potential. Matthew2000 Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 If you use JJ's put it where the hook is so the bass key in on it. Quote
Blaker87 Posted January 7, 2015 Author Posted January 7, 2015 I don't use jj's. Tho one day I would like to look into it. I think I'm gonna try cutting the legs off of one and using them as short senkos. I figure it has some great action so it's gotta have a use somewhere Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted January 8, 2015 Super User Posted January 8, 2015 I have had zero success with them. Quote
