pcakes55 Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Let me start by saying I hate these threads, but I really need some input from people who have experience with both before I pull the trigger. This rod will be paired with a Stradic ci4 2500, mostly used for drop shot and 1/8th oz tubes, occasional shakey head. Im also considering cheaping out and picking up a mojo dropshot rod. I've been very pleased with my other mojo; I think braid makes up for a lot of sensitivity issues. If you have experience with this rod as well, feel free to chime in. Thanks for anyone input Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted January 3, 2015 Super User Posted January 3, 2015 The DX...11 times out of 10....8 days a week and it isn't even close. Quote
pcakes55 Posted January 3, 2015 Author Posted January 3, 2015 Thanks. I agree that the dx is no doubt a better quality rod (I have a few). I'm mostly torn between the 702 or 742 for my applications. I'm a little bit biased towards the 742 but Im concerned that an 1/8th jig head won't load the rod up enough when casting. Quote
Arv Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 If you want a more versatile rod then go 742. I had it. Liked it. Sold it. I just didn't use it enough to justify having it. The 702 is very much a finesse rod. If you plan on a lot of 1/8 oz presentations, in mostly open water, go 702. If you want a little more versatility, go 742. if you're considering the dx, imo, the mojo shouldn't be in the picture. Quote
DTack Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 742dx all the way. For 1/8 oz tubes it is my favorite in the line period. As Arv said, the 702dx is VERY finesse... the power on that rod is NOT the same as the 742. The 742 is a more powerful rod overall and is my preference for single hook lighter baits like a light tube or darthead. For the record I was fishing a 1/8 oz tube on a 743dx this weekend. It didn't cast as good as a 742 would have.. but it got it out there. The 742 will cast a 1/8 tube just fine! Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted January 5, 2015 Super User Posted January 5, 2015 While I have not used either of these rods I do own a few Dobyn's. With their reputation for a very balanced rod, I would go with the 742, should help you get better distance with lighter baits, and it will not come at the expense of being tip heavy. Quote
thehooligan Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 The mojo shouldnt even be in the same catagory with a dx, lol. Id go for the 702 personally, but this is coming from someone who prefers shorter rods, 6'8-6'10. Quote
pcakes55 Posted January 5, 2015 Author Posted January 5, 2015 Thanks for input guys. Went with the 742. Will post my thoughts/impressions after I toss it a bit. 2 Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted January 5, 2015 Super User Posted January 5, 2015 If you do decide to cheap out for the mojo drop shot rod I'm really enjoying mine, but I've only had it since Christmas so I can't say much... EDIT: Whoops just noticed you said you already made a decision, hope you like the rod! 1 Quote
