BG RTR Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 For those of you who have the new Helix 5: 1.) I'm looking for a Ram mount. I called ram and they said I would need a 137UB. This mount has an 11" base which seemed way too big for a 7.5in. unit. Is anyone using something different? 2.) Quick disconnect. Since the unit has a Gimbal mount, will it still have a quick disconnect so that I can remove it from the boat without removing the mount? Thanks in advance! Quote
prjavelin Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 I bought one. You can remove it from the boat which is what I do but you have to remove the 2 screws on the sides to do that. It's not a quick disconnect but it's not a pita either. Quote

With a gimble mount unit, that is why some add a RAM or other mount to make dismounting simpler and easier and gives more flexibility for display position. Lots of choics for a quick disconnect mount. RAM Balzout Johnny Ray more Quote
prjavelin Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 i experienced what you are saying wayne. Its not bad to mount or dismount in my house or in the ramp. Its not as nice on the water where I have to be careful not to send one of the knobs into the water and Im in a different position inside the boat vs doing it outside the boat with it in the trailer. Are there mounts for the Helix already? HB wants 39.99 for a stock mount and I definitely need another one for when I decide to move the FF to the back and scan. Usually how much are these? EDIT: just researched the 2 models you guys are talking about. I guess i mount the gimball to the ram mount... the unit only has 2 screws on the sides that wont work if hooked to a plate like the ram comes with. These arent that much. I may buy one today and let you guys know how it is. Quote
BG RTR Posted January 16, 2015 Author Posted January 16, 2015 Ram now has Helix listed on their wizard. It calls for a 1.5 x 3 plate with a 1.5 ball. This looks to be the end that mounts to the unit. Ive been looking on the web and these are hard to come by. Ram's site has a ridiculous shipping charge. Quote
