Super User FishTank Posted January 2, 2015 Super User Posted January 2, 2015 I have been kicking around the idea of an UL set up and wanted a few suggestions or ideas. I already have a ML St. Croix Avid paired with a Shimano stradic so I was thinking of something way different> maybe a 7' UL fast St. Croix Premier and a Pflueger Supreme. I would be using this set up for inline spinner baits and small jigs exclusively. It would be used from a kayak in shallow water streams. Thanks again for your thoughts..... Quote
OntarioFishingGuy Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 Look at a St Croix Trout series or Panfish series. I like my trout series a lot better than my Premier. The trout series also has a faster action that the Premier. Another great UL rod is a Fenwick River Runner. I have one of the old models, and it is probably my most used rod. Not sure about the newer models though. The Pflueger Supreme is a good reel, as is the Shimano Sahara. Spool up with some light (2-4lb) copolymer or mono or 2-6lb Fireline, and you should be good to go Quote

Super User FishTank Posted January 3, 2015 Author Super User Posted January 3, 2015 The old model river runners are fantastic. What are you looking to spend? Under $250 for the set up. It's not something I figure I will use a whole lot but I still looking for something of decent quality. Last week Gander Mountain had the Supreme on sale for $69.99 but they are off sale this week (just came back from there). I may hold off until they are back sale but I will probably make a move sometime before spring. Look at a St Croix Trout series or Panfish series. I like my trout series a lot better than my Premier. The fenwick river runner is also a good rod but same thing, no one has them in stock. Quote
Klebs01 Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Santa brought a 6' ulf avid with a Sahara 500 and a 6'6" lf avid with a Sahara 1000. Both set ups balance very well. Can't wait for it to warm up so I can use them. Quote
