FunkJishing Posted January 2, 2015 Author Posted January 2, 2015 the diffrence in the MG and LFS is the MG has a stronger drag by 5lbs and has centrifugal breaks as well as magnetic ones. not much a diffrence, but its probably worth 30 more $ Quote
ABW Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 It was my first baitcaster and is still going strong 1 Quote
Bass2124 Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 I had bought one from dicks for $99 last season and had issues with mine (grinding feel and a loud screech on the cast) after a few months of using it. Took it apart and gave it a thorough cleaning and it still works but not as smooth as it was when I bought it. I have never had issues with any of my other bait casting reels in that price range- Pro Qualifier, President, and Tatula like I have had with the Lews. The reviews are awesome on the Lews and maybe I got a lemon, but I will never purchase one again. After receiving my latest Christmas gift, Shimano Curado i, I am not turning back. That reel has the most amazing feel, smoothest retrieval, and casting ability of anything I have ever used and for an extra $40 well worth the upgrade. Quote
Super User HoosierHawgs Posted January 3, 2015 Super User Posted January 3, 2015 I love my Lew's! They are by far my favorite out of everything I own. Quote
Super User Sam Posted January 3, 2015 Super User Posted January 3, 2015 Yep. Love mine. You just got to set it up before you use it to stop the backlashes. Quote
ChrisWi Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Love all four of mine! Great reels. Right now I'm expierimenting with shimanos and like'm. Dont think they'll replace my Lews though. For the money they can not be beat. 1 Quote
WdyCrankbait Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 yeah, I have a Tournament Lite SS and love it. Shimanos have been good to me, but I feel I get a lot more bang for the buck out of a Lew's. PM coming as well 1 Quote

FunkJishing Posted January 3, 2015 Author Posted January 3, 2015 haha judging by the great reviews here I cant go wrong. it'll be my first reel over 50$ so I'm sure I'll enjoy it. thanks for the info and back-up guys! 1 Quote
jyu87 Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 I've heard so many great reviews on the Speed Spool that I ordered myself one on a Mojo Bass rod MHF 7'1. I currently have a Abu Garcia Revo STX on a St. Croix LTB. I feel like both are going to be great but I really like the speed spool and it's price point. Quote
Sonik Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 I love how people buy $200 Curados, Chronarchs, and other reels and then go buy a Lew's LFS or Laser for $99 and under. Then say how bad the Lew's is. Well, I tell you what. I own $200 Lew's Tournament Pros and BB1 Pros. I think I'll go out and buy me a $75 Abu Black Max and a Shimano Caenan and do apples to apples comparison. Then come back here and say "Shimanos and Abu Garcia are junk. They felt like a gravel polisher next to my Pro model Lew's. I'll NEVER buy their products again." A man aught to have more common sense than to do an apples to apples comparison of any brand's $75 reel to another's $200 reel. 4 Quote

I don't know what reel you are fishing currently, but in another thread DVT commented that once you jump into the 100+ dollar price point the quality takes a rather large jump as well. I imagine you will enjoy the reel, and that this will become a very expensive hobby Quote
fisherrw Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 It is a great reel but the shimano is a better reel. y can find them on eBay for 100$ Quote
Super User HoosierHawgs Posted January 4, 2015 Super User Posted January 4, 2015 It is a great reel but the shimano is a better reel. y can find them on eBay for 100$ Shimano what? Only one I can find for $99 is a Citica.... Which is just a Cauis w/an aluminum frame.... It doesn't have near the features of an LFS model Speed Spool, which is $99 at a base price and can be found for less I'm sure... While the Citca is a $129 base price... I love how people buy $200 Curados, Chronarchs, and other reels and then go buy a Lew's LFS or Laser for $99 and under. Then say how bad the Lew's is. Well, I tell you what. What's funny is I like my $100 Speed Spool better than more expensive reels from other brands!!! Quote

A man aught to have more common sense than to do an apples to apples comparison of any brand's $75 reel to another's $200 reel. I have no dog in this fight, but have to agree that comparing a reel listing for $100 to a reel listing for $180 isn't really fair. I don't care what the final price is. Obviously if you can get that $180 for $100 then that is the way to go, but reels should be compared at comparable list prices. I've got a reel I bought new for $30 on closeout (believe list was $80). It is a fine reel....actually surprisingly good....but I am not going to compare it to a Zillion or Core. I paid $98 for a new Curado 51E on closeout ($200 list). Should I compare it to the $99 (list) Lews? Quote
sprint286 Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 the LFS models are outstanding they are more compact than their predecessors and fit better in your hand . smooth and reliable. 1 Quote
sprint286 Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 yes the LFS is the new version of the SS1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 4, 2015 Global Moderator Posted January 4, 2015 I have one of the SS1 Speed Spools that I've put through the ringer and it's still going strong. It's one of the farthest casting stock reels I've ever owned. 1 Quote
