Long time lurker here. Getting more social in 2015  :eyebrows:

I've been bass fishing since about 1997ish, but began seriously getting into the sport as a regular hobby in 2004. In 2011 I took it beyond hobby to addiction level you might say...In 2014 I was blessed to spend about 50 days on the water which for me was quite an accomplishment with my work schedule.

In 2015 I hope to beat that number, and win my first local tournament here in Williamsburg.

I enjoy fishing local opens, on smaller lakes where I can rent a boat. I've never placed higher than 7th, so I'm hoping for big improvements this year.

My tackle collection is very modest but always growing. Perhaps I'll do a personal inventory post about that soon.

Anyhow, glad to finally be a "real" member of the forum here. I look forward to participating in some great discussions with everyone.

Glad to have you with us, Brian.

To expand your Virginia bass fishing please consider investing in joining a bass club as a nonboater.

You will learn how to fish the Historic James River; the Chick River; the Pamunkey; the Mattaponi; and if you join a club in the Tidewater area you can fish Back Bay.

Ed Allen's on Chick Lake has small skiffs with motors for rent. At least they did the last time I was there about two years ago.

There are other places where you can rent a boat to fish. Wdycrankbait can fill you in if he sees this post.

Keep us posted on your adventures and chime in with your input on our posts.

Happy New Year.

Happy New Year.

Thanks for the tips.

Last season I got a year pass at Waller Mill, bought a 55lb thrust trolling motor, and a new battery. Since I basically live across the street from this reservoir it's the easiest place to go practice for me.

With the year pass I get a free jon boat, and free parking, so for $72/year (+ the cost of my motor and battery maintenance) I basically get to go fishing anytime I want. Because of this I made some great strides in 2014.

I also fish at Little Creek Reservoir with my own motor and battery, though fishing there with just one battery kind of limits things a bit since it's such a huge lake.

I've never fished at Chick lake but its on the 2015 list.

As for joining a club as a non boater, the plan is to spend another year practicing and fishing the cheap $40 saturday opens on Waller Mill and Little Creek first. I fished 3 tournaments last year, caught a limit every time, just wasn't able to get the big ones.

3 tournaments is a lot for me right now...I'm thinking about waiting until 2016 to get my own boat (depending on how things go this year), and at that point I'd like to join a small club like Little Creek Anglers or something.

That being said, I'd love to fish some of the more competitive tournaments as a non boater on the rivers here, but I've only ever bass fished on the Chick ONE time. Before participating in a river tournament, even as a non boater, I'd like to get a little more practice in somehow...Maybe I'll find a partner with a boat I can go out with more regularly.

Until then the plan is to stick with the local lakes,...diascund, chick lake, little creek, and waller mill.

Another year practicing in that arena, then Lord willing I'll get a boat of my own, and then maybe start practicing in the rivers?

We'll see...

Thanks so much for the advice and everyone else for the warm welcome!

Waller Mill, Diasicund Reservoir and a little creek that I used to drive by all the time when I lived in Toano are some of my faves. As a matter of fact, I just got another Pond Prowler, so I'm ready to hit creek parts that my big boat can't fit into. You know, as soon the weathers warms just a bit! Good luck and perhaps we'll bump into each other sometime!
