On a bait caster with a 7-foot MH rod and a Curado 100 reel spooled with 12-pound fluorocarbon or a copoly. Since I pitch and flip Senkos I use the spinning rig 90% of the time. 1 Quote

For me I usually will go with my GLX 853C paired with a Chronarch 50 MG 10lb floro. (Kayak) When I bank fish I will use my 6'8" Cumara MH/F paired with a Citica G7 12lb floro. For wacky rig, I usually use my Fenwick ET Smallmouth 6'8" M/XF paired with a Symetre 2500 with 10lb braid and 8lb floro as a leader. Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted January 2, 2015 Super User Posted January 2, 2015 I use a 7'4" mh casting rod with 12lb Tatsu. I like the longer rod for extra casting distance and more line pickup on hooksets. Don't go too soft or you'll have to use very light wire hooks to get a decent hookset. Senkos are pretty heavy too, so if you're going to ever t-rig with a decent size sinker, you'll need a rod heavy enough to cast well with 1/2oz+. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 I prefer the 4'' and 3" senko type worms so I fish them on M or ML spinning tackle. Larger worms I usually T-rig with weight on a Casting rod, but a 5" senko is plenty heavy enough to fish on casting tackle. IMO the attraction of senkos is the horizontal fall so I don't see an advantage in T-rigging them with weight. In bigger worms I usually go with a ribbed and/or curl tail or a creature of some sort. WdyCrankbait Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 yeah, a 7' with (some change) MH casting rod for 5" senkos, with a fast, or extra fast tip and I like a 6.4 to 1 reel, I know a lot of people are going to say 7 to 1, but I have just caught more bass on senkos using a 6 gear ratio. But, since you're in Louisiana, bass will chase lures down so the faster reel will probably be better for you. Get you some 7" senkos and go out to Valentine lake. Quote

For wacky rigged senkos in the average cover that I fish I go with bait casting gear - currently a 50 sized chronarch on a 6'10" MH Falcon Bucco rod. I go with a Falcon weedless wacky hook, weighted either 1/16 or 1/8 and some brand of medium weight fluorocarbon - last year it was 15 lb abrazx. For tx rigged baits, I generally go with some brand of senko imitator and spinning gear. Currently I'm using a 5'9" Fenwick HMG Med power extra fast tip rod with a1000 sized Shimano Spirex. For line, last year I stuck with 14 lb Fireline crystal and either 15 or 20 lb fluorocarbon leader (a fairly short one, 12"to 18") The spinning gear is fairly lightweight, but I managed to stick and land most of my bites with it last year. I have tried longer and stronger spinning rods, but for where I fish tx rigged senkos, I have better accuracy with the 5'9" Fenwick HMG. Quote

I use an LTB 6'8" MH/F with a 50e Chronarch and 10lb copolymer or 20lb braid. Spinning gear with, as suggested, a MH power and fast action will also work well. Quote

War Eagle 44 Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 I like a 7' MH fast to x fast baitcast rod with 15# fluorocarbon or somewhere between 30 to 50# braid with the same 15# fluorocarbon leader. In the spring when the fish are really aggressive and the grass is just starting to grow I'll fish them on straight braid in the grass. I always use either a Gamakatsu super line ewg or an Owner wide gap plus ewg hook. Quote

I use a 7-foot medium heavy rod and a Shimano Stradic 2500 with 8 pound fluorocarbon line for a weightless rigged wacky style presentation. I will use a baitcaster if I want to cast it far into the middle of the lake. I then go with a 7-foot medium heavy rod with a Curado 100 or 200 and 12 pound fluorocarbon line with the same presentation. Quote

But, of fish 4 lbs and less, so, there should be like 4 pictures. Take 20# line and a wide-angle lens. You guys are going to wreck them! Try both suggestions of spinning rod/reel mentioned and go with what you feel comfortable with. I use spinning gear for weightless 4" senkos like Sam, (he's a friend), but I prefer 7'+ MH casting with at least 14#. Spend a couple hours feeling out rods and reels and go with what feels best to you. Quote
