I might have agreed with you up until last year, but I'm coming around to the idea that there actually might be a thing as too much.

I'm not an Elite Series/FLW pro so it's not like I actually need 20 Plano boxes of tackle with me when I fish. And I find that if I have too much stuff I tend to get trapped in indecision. Inevitably I'll fall back to those confidence lures I'm comfortable with and those untold numbers of lures that have never touched water remain safe in their little slot.

So yeah, for myself I think too much can happen.

Except ammo...you can never have enough ammo.

Have you ever met or heard of an angler who doesn't have an excessive amount of tackle? It is just part of the game!

Sadly a friend of mine has 4 bass outfits and maybe two tackle boxes/bags. He seems content as he doesnt fish that much. Going to have to send the baitmonkey his way!

Glad I don't have less but don't need any more than I have.  Forgetting the dust collectors and combos that get used a few times a year I use 3 spinning combos in freshwater.  On a regular basis the lures I use can be counted on 1 hand, that's 5 and I catch bass 7 days a week 12 months of the year.

My saltwater arsenal is larger simply because I fish both inshore and offshore, different rods and reels are needed plus I target a number of species.  When it comes down to tackle like my freshwater fishing it's about 5 different lures on a regular basis.

Yes, I already have enough tackle to catch fish,

I dont have an excessive amount

And I really try to keep it that way.   I do not like having 8 tons of stuff, more than what I regularly fish with.  Especially for only one species.

I realize you can have too much tackle, but I haven't gotten the yet

I call that having options options! Lol

I get flack for having way too much and for always having one off packages showing up in the mail box every other day..I like to buy at least 1 of every lure on the market to to see what they are all about and also as a "Collection"

I won the last argument by showing how I was able to fetch on average $37 for the 7 Rapala Twitchin Raps I sold on Ebay when I found them for a few bucks at a flea market in a bin and picked up 22....I need to keep the remaining 15 or so I still have in case I ever use one and like them, I think I made a few casts with one a few years ago and just thought it was not needed for my style, plus the Mirrolure 17mr is better imo anyway, but apparently saltwater guys want them and are scared as they are legendary for snook..

I have an addiction to lures, I really do, If it was drugs or Alcohol or Gambling I would be in alot of trouble, but I would call it a healthy addiction because buying expensive lures even just 1 every few days on Ebay allows you to find some awesome lures that you would never normally buy but once in a while you get lucky and can pick up a lot of 5 s-waver 168's for $7 each....Learn the Ebay tricks of how to find the guys who are new to listing and make mistakes so listings are hard to find, I would never give away my secrets, but if you want something, don't bid or look at it more than once that is all I will say, If you see a deal too good to be true, just check feedback or look at other items, many times guys are compulsive like me and will just spend a few hundred bucks on lures I don't need and when I need money I will dump a bunch since I don't open many until using them and I will sell a $15 lure in a lot with 3 others and only ask $30 for it to get money quickly usually to buy more fishing tackle...I am insane, this place makes me worse, and never, never, view demo videos of lures, especially from Sebile, guy can make any lure look like the best invention ever created because he is so good with that rod and reel it is scary......I own every sebile lure created and I can't make half of them do what he gets them to do, but they do work great, Bass rarely see them and I was thinking of going all Sebile for hardbaits since I rarely throw anything else this week, but next week I will get over Sebile and love Strike Pro maybe? Duo? VIntage stuff? or maybe I will do some custom pours, I have enough soft baits to keep every angle in my county stocked for at least 10 years, no Joke, and they cost money to store since they reek like salt and scent.

What is this madness? Too much tackle? It's like asking if the American flag has too much red, white, and blue in it? You need to go buy something until this feeling passes.

it would be hard to have too much tackle, but it is easy to have too much tackle with you... if the boat can no longer plane out I would say that is too much gear...

Maybe the tackle can be used as a counter balance help plane out? Problem solved.

I've been buying D&M chatterbaits before the originals are all gone. Some will probably never hits the water in fear of losing them. Next check I'll buy more cause I can. So in my case yeah too much tackle in chatterbaits, don't care.

Honestly there is no "too much" unless your need for tackle exceeds your ability to pay bills and support your family etc. As long as you handle your business and you're not becoming a tackle Gollum style uber-hermit it's all good.

Hootie I was a fan of Bilbo, Gollum, and the boys long before it was fashionable. I will explain: Gollum started life as Smeagle. Driven by his lust for the ring of power, he had to literally go under ground. He spent many generations there in isolation, just him and his "Precious" ring. As he transformed into Gollum he lost most of his social skills! Master's reference probably describes many of us who value our tackle and solitude more than is healthy. Hope this helps.
