Super User A-Jay Posted January 1, 2015 Super User Posted January 1, 2015 Saying you have Too Much Tackle is like saying My Wife is Too Good Looking. Both are rare occurrences. A-Jay Quote
cyclops2 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 I got caught up in that " gotta keep up with the latest " until I forgot all my tackle at home when going on a 2 week vacation. But I had the emergency rod & reel & a freezer zip lock bag with those 1.5" long floating Rebel & Rapala lures. Couple of splitshots assorted sizes. I caught the same amount of fish as loaded. BUT I was not wasting time changing rods lures different spools with different lines. I Still fish & only buy to maintain the 4# test ultralight & the 60# test rig. Dam I can fish well. I never think or worry about 200 items being changed. It is the person who catches the fish. Not the tackle. If there are no fish ? NO SPECIAL TACKLE is going to catch any of nothing. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted January 1, 2015 Super User Posted January 1, 2015 Is there such a thing as too much tackle? Probably but it doesn't stop most fisherman from trying something new. When I head out to fish I always have too much tackle with me, there is know way I'll use half of it. I know a few fly fisherman and they just get a big chuckle out of the equipment I take with me. They may own just as much as me but something can be said for the level of organization and fishing skills (matching what the fish are biting on) when it comes to the minimalized amount of equipment they carry compared to most bass fisherman. Super User F14A-B Posted January 1, 2015 Super User Posted January 1, 2015 Collecting tackle is as much a part of the fishing experience as catching fish.... As time wanes on you collect more.. Quote
Fisher-O-men Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Too much tackle is what the guy has that I compare myself with when my wife says I have too much tackle. Quote
JThoms38 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Mom/Dad-"Jonah you spend too much on tackle" Me-"could spend my money on drugs, alcohol, and gambling....your call here ma and pa" Works every time 5 Quote
Weld's Largemouth Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Sure there's such a thing as too much tackle. But who the *&*$#@ cares. I'll buy it anyway. Hootie who gives a hoot 2 Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted January 1, 2015 Super User Posted January 1, 2015 My wife has stopped nagging me about too much tackle. I think she's given up. 1 Quote
long island basser Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 This is what I have and use to bass fish off my boat. A Plano over/under box and double size binder. No other boxes, bags, or crates of tackle in my garage, basement, or attic. I have what I need and much, much more than I can use in a day fishing. Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted January 1, 2015 Super User Posted January 1, 2015 Okay, my wife says I need help and don't disagree completely, You are about to lose your man card but than she said those heinous words. "You have too much tackle" Ohhhh.. Tell her that you would like to look at her closet together and see who hasa problem Like any addict I denied it. I made reason, but than I got defensive. "There is no such thing as "too much tackle" No reason to get defensive good man. There is a better shot at curing AIDS than finding a cure for the Bait Monkey. Just let it go. You have no problem! What is too much? If you can find the definitive answer..please let us know. Nobody has ever found that limit. Quote

cyclops2 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 I remember taking up fly fishing. Talk about spending money FAST. 40 years ago each tiny fly was $3 to $5. By the time you bought all *** most of the types & sizes you owned hundreds. Without anything for non trout fish. I still have 50 ? non trout flies. Thankfully I can tie up a Muddler Minnow in a 3" to 6" length. Funny . A game warden asked me if I was going to fish the Gorge regularly with a 6" Muddler. I said probably. Why? He said look at the end of the pool. Several big dead trout. Belly up. I asked what caused that ? I did. Was his answer.. Big trout are very shocky after a struggle on 4# test. I ramble terribly. Brnnoser6983 Posted January 1, 2015 Author Posted January 1, 2015 I fear taking up fly fishing for the cost. Musky fishing hasn't been any better. $15 - $20+ a bait. $200 rods and $200 reels. But I have been getting musky baits in moderation. Quote
BassmanDan Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 I have the best of both worlds and I know it...my wife doesn't say a word about my tackle buying AND she has no interest in spending money on purses, shoes, etc. So every once in a while when she does mention something she would like I make sure to make it happen. 3 Quote
cyclops2 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 You can do it with 1 rod & reel. Later in fly fishing I bought a 9 weight rod & a anti reverse, adjustable drag, Pflueger ? reel with 5 extra spools for different weight lines & different tip types. The #9 weight will handle standard sized pike & musky. By changing the tip type you can cast the lighter stuff VERY well in a breeze. The Winston #9 was pure pleasure to land anything in freshwater. Got antsy for saltwater Bought a #12 rod. Waste of money. I could do about 30 pickups at VERY short lengths. Almost no control of loading the rod. Found out The #12 is only for trolling. Buy & learn. LOOSE money. Gave it to a GORILLA who casts for stripers. Loves it. He casts that broom stick all day when the stripers are near shore. Quote
Arv Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 i need one of each rate of fall and color, never know what the fish will want when you are on the water... right? Did you get free shipping on that order? 2 Quote
Super User Raul Posted January 1, 2015 Super User Posted January 1, 2015 Rags?clothes, but since it ain't my stuff then it's her rags. Quote

Arv Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 <~~~ ? ? Just messing. I don't know many people that like fishing enough be on a fishingforum that don't succumb to the temptations of the baitmonkey. 1 Quote
Don't Tell The Wife Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 If you have a lot of lures it gives you more reason to have more rods so you can use the lures more efficiently. It's a vicious cycle. 1 Quote
