Brnnoser6983 Posted January 1, 2015 Author Posted January 1, 2015 If you have a lot of lures it gives you more reason to have more rods so you can use the lures more efficiently. It's a vicious cycle. That's why I just bought another combo last week and am buying a new rod today. Wait no the new rod was an anal retentive purchase. 1 Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted January 2, 2015 Super User Posted January 2, 2015 I enjoy having choices. Could I get by with much less? Absolutely. Do I have too much? Nope. Catching fish is only one of the things I like about bass fishing. I like the tackle, gear, conversation, and all the other pieces of the puzzle. If simply catching fish on one combo and a handful of lures works for you, enjoy. If having the price of a new vehicle (or several) in gear makes you happy, while having your financial house in order more power to you. Enough for me would not be enough for many. Not because I have everything I want, but because income limits my options. Buy what you can afford and enjoy the journey. My wife used to think I had too much also. Now that she fishes with me regularly, she likes having options as well... 1 Quote
pbizzle Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 I started thinking that I maybe had enough rods for a second the other day... but then I decided that I'll go buy a new rod for my T3B tomorrow. Quote
long island basser Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 Just messing. I don't know many people that like fishing enough be on a fishingforum that don't succumb to the temptations of the baitmonkey. Some type of monkey showed up at my house 30 years ago, hit him in the face with a load of buckshot, haven't seen him since. Quote
Super User Senko lover Posted January 2, 2015 Super User Posted January 2, 2015 I'd say when you no longer fish but just look at your tackle, that's a problem. 2 Quote

My favorite is to head up northern Minnesota where my grandparents owned a cabin. Up there you can loose yourself in the time. You sit back and watch life move one. No plains flying overhead. No cars roaring by. The only traffic to be concerned by is a fellow fisherman trolling by you as he waves. You don't need to know them to get a friendly hello, how's the fishing. It's relaxing. Beyond relaxing, and I don't understand why anyone wouldn't like it any other way. Just myself, maybe a good friend, family ... fishing.. fooling nature with my fake food and taking it all in. 2 Quote
Brnnoser6983 Posted January 2, 2015 Author Posted January 2, 2015 Did you get free shipping on that order? Any order over $50 gets free ground shipping (5-10 days) and only $5 on 2 day. $10 to overnight. Quote

RSM789 Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 When the revolutions begin & society breaks down, us bass fisherman with "too much gear" will be prepared. We will be able to feed our families for years without having to ever buy another lure, rod, reel or spool of line. So see, having so much tackle is the responsible thing to do. Now where the hell did I leave my tin foil... 2 Quote
Don't Tell The Wife Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 Someone needs to feed my 250 optimax! Quote
corn-on-the-rob Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 No such thing as long as you are not impacting something negatively. If you are spending money that was meant for other financial responsibilities then sure. As I see it, no harm, no foul. Quote
Don't Tell The Wife Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 I like the Dave Ramsey model: Baby step 1: $1000 emergency fund Baby step 2: Pay off debt snowball Baby step 3: 3-6 months in expenses Baby step 4: 15% in Roth or pre tax Baby step 5: College fund for children Baby step 6: Pay off home early Baby step 7: Build wealth and GIVE (I have a bunch of old tackle) Baby step 8: Buy all the fishing tackle you want! I am almost done with 6. 1 Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted January 2, 2015 Super User Posted January 2, 2015 I have 2 rooms in the basement where I keep everything. The boat is loaded with a "season working selection" when needed as needed but then gets emptied out after each use. I couldn't even begin to count what I have and don't have. I have sold some and donated some of it locally to college bass clubs, friends, and others locally that I felt could use a few things. It is sad in way just how much "fishing stuff" I have and still typically add more annually. If there is one thing I tend to hoard it is this. 1 Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted January 2, 2015 Super User Posted January 2, 2015 When you're asked to appear on the T.V. show Hoarders, you may have too much fishing tackle. Maybe. 1 Quote
ward131 Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 I will kick the bait monkeys a$$ When I have the set up that catches every fish every time! 1 Quote
Brnnoser6983 Posted January 3, 2015 Author Posted January 3, 2015 I think we need to accept the bait monkey. Sure a monkey can rip off your face, but I picture my monkey as a capuchin monkey. Wearing a diaper 1 Quote

Jaderose Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 I guess I'm lucky. My wife encourages my hobby as I do hers. We buy what we want when it doesn't affect us negatively in any way. I DO have a bit of a vintage tackle jones but I just buy what I like. I'm not looking to have anything ultra rare or anything like that. I also like hand made cranks and the like. Like anything else, you gotta approach it with a modicum of sense. If you have to decide between tackle and food, you have a problem. Quote
VtSmallmouth Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 I'm lucky enough to have a girlfriend who loves to bass fish, not a much as I do of course...but she uses a lot of my lures so when I go to bps and buy all my new toys she doennt mind one bit!! Gotta love girls that fish 1 Quote
Heron Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 Yeah, all of these guys who have ginormous quantities of tackle and gear, are a funny sort. Theyll proclaim proudly that, "you can never have too much." I bump in to guys like this from time to time. But when I mention to them, that I have a load of stuff that Im looking to sell. Without even asking about it, they totally cave and say, "Ohhhh....um, no thanks man....I got enough stuff as it is." Funny. 1 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted January 10, 2015 Super User Posted January 10, 2015 I thought I had too much tackle and about twenty years ago sold a bunch of it in a yard sale. Ive been beating myself up ever since. Most of those lures are no longer made and they were good baits . Quote
Super User Alpster Posted January 10, 2015 Super User Posted January 10, 2015 I realize you can have too much tackle, but I haven't gotten there yet. Quote
Jon G Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 Have you ever met or heard of an angler who doesn't have an excessive amount of tackle? It is just part of the game! Quote
