Frog Colors/styles

Looking to get into frog fishing, and was wondering what you guys think are the bare essential styles/colors of frogs that I need to get started. Thanks.

Hollow body: spro bronzeye- nasty shad

Solid body: zoom horny toad and rage toad. Color doesn't matter where I'm at.

You should get at least 2 different colors. light and dark. no matter what the top looks like it doesnt matter to the fish, they only see the bottom.  that said I like the booyah pad crasher over the spro frogs.

I would start by getting some hollow body frogs, I use Spro but that is all personal preference.  You will want colors that match the body's of water that you fish.  A light and dark frog will be a great start.

I started off using a Spro Frog in Albino White and one in Green Tree.  I have caught more fish on the Albino White one than any other frog or color.  I just use the basic frog and cut about an inch off both legs.  That is how I started. Then they added the Popping frogs to the lineup and now the Bronzeye Shad. There are a bunch of different brands of frogs, whether it be Spro, Booyah, Strike King and a bunch more.  I personally started with the Spro and kinda got hooked on them.  I have some booyah cause they are a bit nicer on the wallet, but I still feel more comfortable with the Spro on the end of the line. 

 

Like any question on here you will find that everyone has a favorite brand and color.  A LOT of people swear by the color black on a frog.  I have done really well with white. 

 

To just start off though, I would get 3 regular type frogs. One with a white belly, one with yellow and one with black. The belly color is really the only thing that matters with the color, since that is the only part that shows up under water.  Anyway, hope this helps. Any questions let me know. I'd get three colors, orange, white, and black. Black for cloudy days, white for sunny days, and orange for those in between days.

I also like the Pad Crahsers. Good price for a good frogm go for one in a natural frog color, one in black, and one in a shad color.. That's what I would consider the 'bare essentials', but its no fun sticking w/those, right!

I have had every size, brand, and style of frog there is over the last 10 years. All I use now are one size and style,in four simple colors. I just use a "regular" size walking frog. Brand matters little, I use the SK. My four colors are, black, something with a white belly, something with a chart.belly, and something translucent. When I want something buzzing across the top, a havoc pit boss, or subwoofer works great for that, and they are already in my arsenal for other purposes. It's a simple, yet effective system for me.

I have fished a large variety of frogs over the years and have come to settle on two.  My favorite is the Jackall Iobee frog in bluegill, brown, and white.  This frog has been the easiest to walk frog out of the box that I have tried, good hooks and good durability, the best part is that you have to do nothing to the frog out of the box, tie it on and start using it.  

I also use the Spro Bronze eye frog in two colors that produce well in this area, killer gill and natural green.  I bend the hooks slightly and trim the legs to help it walk a little easier.

 

As someone else mentioned, once you get that first big bass explosion you will be hooked on frog fishing.

I throw one color frog and I've gotten bit on it in every water color and everywhere I've fished it. The black and yellow head River2sea spittin wa frog. Keep it simple, no need to get a ton of frogs and colors. That's my opinion on it.

Frogs are fabulous. I think you should have a natural frog imitation (with white belly), and a black frog. Baitfish colors that mimic shad or perch are also good to have.

I also use three colors brown black and white. I throw spro but the wa is great also!

I use the inexpensive Scum Frogs as I lose a good number of frogs to the big pike where I fish.  They seem to work well and I've enjoyed some outrageously fun times throwing them.  The only drawback I find is that they are quite a bit lighter than other frogs and you need the right rod to throw them accurately or long distances.

 

I have them in yellow, chartreuse, green, white and black.  They all seem to work well and I haven't enjoyed enough good frogging days to really develop a sense for color preferences.

Just remember the fish can only see the bottom, not the fancy paint schemes made to catch fishermen in the store.

I use the Spro Bronzeye in two colors.  Black for night fishing and Green Tree for daytime.  I tend to have a lot of frogs go after the black Bronzeye when I use it during the day though.

I know this is kinda late advice, but I really enjoy frog fishing. All your hollow body frogs are good, but for the last year I've been using the ribbit frog, an the blow ups are unbelievable!
