KDW96 Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Hi everyone- Ive finely decided to start tube fishin ! Been fishin for 40yrs never bothered with them. I got a answer from a previous topic on rod&line. But now im looking for for--BRANDS OF 3in or3.5 TUBES-- . Some have a bit of a solid head for rigging, others dont. So can you help me with: 1. Hook type and size.( for 3in or 3.5in). 2. Brand specific (some have more tail than others). 3. Any other recommendations tackle wise. Thanks for your time-KDW96 HAPPY NEW YEAR............ Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted December 31, 2014 Super User Posted December 31, 2014 Gitzits and their Gitzit tube heads are my go-to. Cabin Creek also has some great tubes. My only knock on MegaStrike is that they don't come in the 3 - 3.5" range. They are more like flippin' tubes IMO. 1 Quote

gobig Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Personally I like Dry Creek tubes. The full body double dips are my favorite. I buy them in 50 packs and rig them using dart heads from a local company. The reason I like the dartheads is the 90 deg line tie. You can really change the action of the tube depending on where you position the darthead. Put a little megastrike on the darthead before inserting it in the tube and it will slide right in with out damage to the tube. Plus its megastrike. In all they cost me about 90cents a tube. Some of the places I fish them you can go through 20 or more a day. So an inexpensive tube that looks killer is key to not breaking the bank. 1 Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted December 31, 2014 Super User Posted December 31, 2014 Berkley power tubes, they are still my favorite, as far as jig heads/ hook size, that is going to vary a bit, I use 2/0 round bend to 3/0 round bend primarily... Sometimes I T-trig a tube, not often though. Quote
FunkJishing Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 zoom makes good tubes and you'll want to rig em on extra wide gap hooks or tube jigs. wave worms makes good tubes as well and so does gizit. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted December 31, 2014 Super User Posted December 31, 2014 U use an inside tube jig that goes inside the tube and leaves an exposed hook for most of my tube fishing. If I'm fishing it in cover I'll texas rig the bait with a 1/8oz or 3/16oz bullet weight and for a 3" tube you can use a 2/0 Gamakatsu skip gap hook and for a 3.5" tube I use the 3/0 skip gap hook. For tubes you can go with Gitzit or Cabin Creek, both are great tubes and will work. If you want to move up to better tubes and stuff when you get use to them, go with River Rock Baits Tubes, these are the best tubes on the market bar none, they are super soft which makes the tentacles flair out and the fish hold onto them a long time. I think every east coast river smallmouth angler uses River Rock Tubes, no softer hand dipped tube on the market and for those I use the Trokar Tournament tube hook in 2/0, it such a wide bite you don't need to go too big on the hook. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted December 31, 2014 Global Moderator Posted December 31, 2014 I use the Berkley Power brand also. Latley I've been useing the "stupid rig" rigging with a 5/0 internal weight. It really works great flipping into all the vegetation down here, and with some girls moving onto beds now, it's gonna get crazy real fast! Mike Quote

I use a 3/0 to a small tube jig not sure what size is my favorite I use Berkley Havoc, all I really know..... I would like to find some cheaper ones Be patient and let the fish tell you what they want 1 Quote
EvanT123 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 I don't like to spend a lot on tube jigs. Usually fish 1/8-1/4 tube jig heads with eagle claw hooks and the cheapest tubes I can find at any given moments. Like green, orange and maybe a black or smoke. It works for me. Sorry missed a few points. Usually have a 1/0 or 2/0 hook on the jig head. One of the best tips I've heard here on br; don't push the jig head all the way to the top of the tube leave a small gap at the top. It should help from snagging so much. 1 Quote
papajoe222 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 I rarely T-rig a tube. I'll rig with a tube jig either exposed hook, or stupid rigged. When I do T-rig, it's always with an internal weight of some sort. If you plan on T-rigging, go with a thin wire EWG, what size will depend on how thick the tube is that you choose to use. You should see some daylight between the tube and the hook's bend when rigged. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 1, 2015 Global Moderator Posted January 1, 2015 I've had good luck with Snack Daddy and Poor Boy tubes. Quote

I have had a lot of success with the BPS brand, and there cheap. I use the 2.75 for dropshot and there great 3. Any other recommendations tackle wise. 7' Medium or medium light depending on brand and techniques spinning rod with 6-8lb line i use a medium casting setup for t-rig in light cover. Quote
