Supposed to float or not!

I have been fishing at a local lake for about 6 months now and havent had much luck in it buy my friend went out with a pro at that lake and he told me he was killing the bass with a carolina rigged worm. I havent ever fished the c-rig before so i thought to myself i'll try it out. Well i made a rig and was tossin it around in my pool to see how it looked. Well the worm just drags around on the bottom and i thought it was supposed to float above the bottom. and the pond behind my house has some small bass in it and i can throw about anything all there and get bites but they wouldnt bite my c-rig please help.

To start off with a Carolina rig, I would suggest using a Strike King 3x finesse worm (it floats).  If you like the bait that your using, cut a small piece of foam and put if right in from of your bait.  I would make sure you are using sensitive line and your maintaining bottom contact.  This rig has been unsuccessful and shallower than 6-10 feet.  You also have got to be using it on some for of structure, ledges being the most productive.

There are different ways to retrieve it.  You can hop the weight or 'pump' it, which will in turn get your bait a little lift, or you can just drag it slowly (most popular), and the worm will drag behind.  I know it looks like the worm is just scooting across the bottom as if you were slowly dragging a Texas rig, but the worm/creature/etc. is behaving much differently without a weight attached to it.  Even though it is being dragged slowly, the worm behaves weightless, yet sticks to the bottom...slightly popping up as it hits rocks.  That is what a C-rig and Drop Shot do that no other rig can; present the action of a weightless bait on or near the bottom.  Also, as mentioned above, you can experiment with floating baits, but I do not have much experience using floating baits on a C-rig.

I love C-Rig and no mater what depth i'm fishing I have more success, especially when the bass are active and in a cashing mood. I just seem to get more action from a C-Rig then a T-Rig, and love the fact that it takes a few more seconds to float to the bottom as opposed to a Trig with a weight right on top. Then again, weightless T-Rig senko is nice too.

I've never tried just dragging a C-Rig, i'ma go try that this week =)

I do a pretty quick retrieve with a C-Rig and get great results when the fish are active, lota jerking motions.
